Nancy: I know that once you start learning more about what goes on behind the scenes, you can use that as training. Are you interested in branching out with directing and be involved with other aspects of movie making? Kimberly: I love directing, I actually directed my scenes for Mark of the Astro-Zombies for living legend Ted V. Mikels and sent them in for his approval and editing. Then I directed my footage for Zombie Love Slave, which will hopefully soon be released. I co-directed with Leo Zemke a horror short called THE BLACK DOLL about a voodoo doll run amuck. I have directed or co-directed several other small things, it’s a lot of fun and I think I will do more of it. Nancy: If you could direct a movie with a vampire, zombie, or ghost, which would you pick and why? Kimberly: I would definitely pick directing a zombie movie, the first film that ever scared me as a child was NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, the music, the flesh eating zombies in the dark with that nerve shattering music and just aimless and mindless and only wanting to eat the living, its the most horrifying thing there is. I would want to direct zombies, I have done a little footage for Ari Richards International Zombie Project, I think that one is shelved right now but my footage is almost done for it, one scene Moe the cemetery man that saves us from a zombie is bitten and my son has to chop off his arm to save him its a tribute to Romero's Day of the Dead and it was great fun to do. Vampires are not scary to me, I played one in Cremains, they are sexy not scary. Ghosts are scary but not in the flesh, a ghost could really never harm you but a zombie would. It would tear your flesh and mutilate you and that is SCARY! Nancy: Do you ever get to keep props from movie sets? If so, what are some of your favorites? Kimberly: Favorite props lets see, I have two Pods from Body Snatchers, one the Director Abel Ferrara presented me with and one the special effects guy gave me. I have a prosthetic from Day of the Dead made my Tom Savini and it’s my most prized posession. I am really proud of it. I have a balistabolt (giant arrow) from GLADIATOR that a fan had shipped to me as a gift. I also collect posters from old films and action figures etc......I also have one of the Astro-Zombie masks and costumes from Mark of the Astro-Zombies. Nancy: I see you also write, sing and dance. What have you had published? Kimberly: I write, I have had articles published in Monster Maker Journal, Scan, Draculina, Midway Shopper, Newspapers, that’s about it. I have been pecking away at short stories off and on for several years trying to get enough done for a small book. Maybe one day. Nancy: I think belly dancing is very feminine and sexy. I took a class when I was seventeen and loved it. Plus the music is pretty cool and sensual. How did you get into belly dancing? Kimberly: My mother taught Egyptian Belly Dancing and Cultural dance. My mom has always been so awesome. I learned from her and it was so kewl in addition to doing a belly dance in Odd Noggins, I also danced as the alien in Monster in the Garage and when I finally started to realize my lifelong dream of traveling I spent three weeks in Egypt and went on a cruise down the nile, I did the rope dance and the stick harvest dance as well as a belly dance on stage with the performers I have it all on tape and its quite funny and it was one of the highlights of my life. The Egyptians were so impressed and delighted that I knew some of their traditional cultural dances. Nancy: I’ll bet that was a blast! What kind of music do you listen to? Kimberly: I like all kinds of music from Motzart and Opera to ICP and Limp Bizkit, Korn, Orgy, Evenescence, Metallica, I really love this one band that is new called FREAK 13, they are excellent. Nancy: Since you do sing, have you considered recording an album? Kimberly: I have sang at weddings for friends and family, I have never really thought about doing a CD but I am not opposed to the idea, I have always been told I have a nice voice. Nancy: Do you collect anything in particular? If so, what do you collect? Kimberly: I collect movie props, horror dolls, old books, swords and knives and axes (medieval weaponry) and dead bodies (just kidding). I also collect amusement park rides but little ones right now (big ones a bit later) I have a layout with miniature working rides and roller coasters on it, I have a very talented guy named Steve Calderon who is building a tiny Chance Turbo for me, its the greatest central based thrill ride ever designed. Nancy: I read your nickname is Babydoll. How did you get to be called that? Kimberly: Babydoll, oh gosh, my ex husband started it and a photographer heard it and thought that was my name, no kidding, he was Russian and did not speak much English, I was doing a lot of runway stuff then and some print modeling and it sort of stuck, people started calling me babydoll. |
