Sponsor-a-Girl Program
What is Sponsor-a-Girl program?
The SAGP gives you the opportunity to help a young Panamanian woman graduate from high school.  This program offers young woman between the ages of 12 to 17 the chance to further their studies and the opportunity to break the cycle of proverty and illiteracy.  Equally important, they become role models for other adolescents.

Who are the recipients?
Peace Corps Volunteers identify possible recipients in identified ¨zones of extreme poverty¨ in each province.  Decisions are based on financial need, demonstrated commitment to studies, and current motivation.  Each aspirant writes a statement discussing the following:
*Why do you want to continue your education?
*What do you like to study?
*How will the scholarship help achieve those goals?
Applicants are reviewed by committee on a revolving basis.

recipients)

How can I help?
You can sponsor a young woman for a year´s schooling.  This provides one year of enrollment fees, uniforms, books, room/board, and transportation.  100% of your tax-deductible donations goes directly to the young woman.
*Costs vary from region to region, due to transportation and education costs.
     *$100, $200, or $300 buys one year´s education!
*Or pay for all six years of high school by mulitplying your amount by six!

how funds are appropriated¨)

Where do I send my donation?
Checks can be sent to our partner organization, Centro de Estudios para la Promocion de Desarollo (PRODES).  Please email
Rachel Powers, Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee, for more information.

What else do I need to know?
WID/GAD is grateful for your assistance.  We will do our best to keep you informed via our website and hope you will keep in touch with us as well.  The young woman who receives your gift will send you a photo and a letter about herself.
