What the recipients receive:
Scholarship recipients do not receive money. Rather the assistance package is disbursed to them in the following way:
-Recipients receive directly the required public school uniform. This includes sets of shirts, skirts, shoes, and physical education uniforms in the styles and colors of their secondary school. Total costs for uniforms for this year were $184.25.
-Tuition fees are paid directly to the school. Tuition fees for this year ranged from $1 to $30 per year.
-Transport and housing fees for girls traveling to school outside their communities are also paid directly to the responsibly authorities. Transport ranged from $0 to $216 per girl.
The total combined cost for tuition, transport, and housing was $1,300.75.
-Fifty dollars (pending receipts) per recipient were then allocated to volunteers to purchase books and other school supplies.
This brought our total budget for the 2001 school year to $2,235. |
