ALTON SINGS FOR AMANDA...
By Girlz & Guyz About Town
NIKKI'S MUM, AMANDA HEYDON, (see piccie with Nikki, right) CELEBRATED HER BIRTHDAY AT THE POACHERS, STEVENAGE ON 5th SEPTEMBER, AND SHE WAS ENTERTAINED BY ALTON EDWARDS (see piccie left).
Naturally, The Boyz & Girlz About Town were there, - Nikki & Pete. Deb & Billium, Viv & Delbert, Jan & Miff, but they were joined this time by Amanda & Andy, Tracey & Nathan, Anne-Marie & Connor, Stacie, Antony and a whole host of Amanda's friends.
Amanda certainly enjoyed herself, bopping away with some old friends, whilst the rest of
us joined in the celebrations in our own inimitable way! Alton Edwards, part of PowerPlus Productions, is a kind of modern one-man band, using pre-recorded music to accompany himself, and it worked extremely well. The only criticism was from Nikki, who pointed out that, rather than starting off with the slow ballads, it would have been better to start off with more funky songs, slowing down to the slow and smoochy as the evening wore on.
Left to Right: Andy and Antony, Jan & Mif. Connor & Anne-Marie, Stacie, Tracy & Nathan, and finally, Jan, Deb and Viv watch Delbert knock back a pint!!
All in all though, everybody had a great time.

DRYMOUTH AT THE VINCENT ALTON SINGS FOR AMANDA
GOOD ROCKIN' AT THE VINCENT
DRYMOUTH ROCK THE RAFTERS AT THE VINCENT MOTORCYCLE STEVENAGE
By NIKKI &PETE
WHEN DRYMOUTH FIRST TOOK TO THE STAGE, THEY WERE DRESSED IN ONE-PIECE BOILER SUITS, BUT THEY WERE SOON DISCARDED, THOUGH THE LEAD SINGER HAD TROUBLE GETTING HIS SHOES OUT OF THEM!
So began a night of pure energy and good rockin' at the revamped VINCENT MOTORCYCLE in Stevenage.
Our old mate, and former legendary gig guide supremo for Switchboard Magazine in the Eighties, Kev Cooke (see piccie left) has turned the fomer Fold Public House around, so that now it is a first-class venue for bands and bikers alike. But more than this, HE HAS TURNED IT INTO A VERY SPECIAL SOCIAL GATHERING POINT, WHERE PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE GATHER GOOD-NATUREDLY IN THE SPIRIT OF THE MOTF. Punks, Bikers. Old Hippies, and general Joes all join together here, for a good old drink and some really rocking music. But back to the band and the night in question...
We both agree that DRYMOUTH are an excellent live band, and are looking forward to the release of their first album, which we hope to review. Right from the start, their special brand of Punk/Ska got everyone up on their feet. This band have a distinctive raw energy, sadly lacking in many of today's bands, which is mixed with an inane sense of humour. which is highly infectious.
FOR THE FINALE, THEY PLAYED THE OLD BEN E  KING NUMBER 'STAND BY ME', WHICH THEY BEGAN AS A STRAIGHT COVER, SOFT BALLAD THAT IT IS, AND THEN SUDDENLY BURST FORTH WITH THEIR OWN PUNK VERSION - GREAT FUN, - AND WHAT A WAY TO END A SET!
Yes, we had a great time, making new friends, and generally enjoying ourselves, as you can see from the piccie of Pete with a fellow reveller, headbanging to the sound of DRYMOUTH.
BY THE END OF THE EVENING, (APART FROM THE BAND, AND THEN IN NAME ONLY) THERE WASN'T A DRY MOUTH IN THE HOUSE!
SO IF YOU WANT A REALLY GOOD NIGHT OUT, THEN WE THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND
THE VINCENT MOTORCYCLE, AT THE HYDE, STEVENAGE, WHICH ALSO HAS AN EXCELLENT FUNCTION ROOM.
