SOCIAL JUSTICE
Page
In The Name of The MOTF
Pete has fought for  Social Justice for many years., but the one that springs to mind is his 'Equal rights for Widowers' campaign, which he fought with Baroness Shirley Williams in the Sixties...
On 23rd June 1967, in Blackpool Lancashire, Pete's first wife Dorothy (pictured left, in the last picture ever taken of her) died of a brain haemmhorrage, leaving a distraught Pete to bring up his two daughters, Vivien and Deborah (also pictured) on his own...

At a time when Women's rights were just starting to surface again, Pete discovered an injustice to MEN, who were left to bring up children on their own.
Whereas, at that time, a woman could get a widows' pension, - men were expected to carry on regardless, or farm their children out. Now this wasn't an option for Pete, so, with the help of Stevenage MP Shirley Williams, he set about the task of getting a
'One Parent Family Allowance'...
Pete campaigned tirelessly from 1968 to 1970, encouraged by Mrs. Williams, writing report after report for various Commons Committees, going into specific details of how difficult it is for lone fathers to look after two little girls- for example, whilst out in the town, does he take them into the gents toilets, or hang about outside the ladies loos?
As a direct result of this,
Baby Changing Rooms for mothers and fathers, taken for granted nowadays, came into being, - and one of the first to open was in Pete's home town of Stevenage!
Pete's efforts finally came to fruition in September 1970, when the
ONE PARENT FAMILY ALLOWANCE was officially introduced.
IRONICALLY, PETE HAD BEEN MARRIED TO SHIRLEY PERRY, (nee GRATWICK) FOR A MONTH BY THIS TIME, - SO HE NEVER RECIEVED IT!
Pete has now moved house with his third partner, Nikki Heydon.

GREED, POWER, SELF-INTEREST, - THESE THINGS ARE COMMON IN THE WORLD TODAY...
We have politicians helping themselves at the taxpayers expense, whilst handing out vast amounts of money to the banks and big businesses, whilst at the same time killing off The Royal Mail.
We have business people filling their pockets whilst the rest of us struggle to put bread on the table. We have a minefield of private business firms running what used to be Public Services. We have government after government tipping their hats to regimes that don't give a fig about Human Rights, whilst at the same time bombing the crap out of others - all just to get their hands on precious Black Gold - OIL!
Whilst politicians, business moguls, so-called sports and reality show 'celebrities' get vast sums of money for enjoying themselves, owning two or more luxury homes, and keeping themselves looking 'young' with plastic surgery (and keep the Harley Street surgeons, the psychiatrists and lawyers in the lap of luxury into the bargain), whilst there are pensioners dying because they can't afford to heat their homes, ordinary people (including children) dying because the hospitals are short of money, over two million people struggling on pitiful dole money (and the word 'dole' comes from the pittance paid out to the poor in Dickensian times), whilst those lucky enough to have jobs are paid as little as their bosses can get away with according to Government guidelines.
SO WHAT DO WE, THE ORDINARY PEOPLE, WHO ARE SWEPT INTO THE GUTTER BY THESE PEOPLE, DO ABOUT IT?
Well, the European Elections are coming up in June, and we are all expected to dutifully vote for our selected party's candidate. The obvious thing to do is
not to bother - one party is as bad as the other, isn't it?
The problem with this is that this would then leave the door open to extremist parties like the BNP, who are modern-day Nazis.
SO I URGE YOU ALL TO GIVE ALL THE MAIN PARTIES, LABOUR, CONSERVATIVE AND THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS, THE COLD SHOULDER, - AND VOTE FOR YOUR
GREEN PARTY CANDIDATE... They are the only party that has, so far, not been caught out with their snouts in the troughs at our expense, -  and it will give a wake-up call to treat us 'Serfs' with some respect.
REMEMBER, WE PUT THESE PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE, - EITHER BY VOTING FOR THEM, DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM, WATCHING CRINGEWORTHY TV SHOWS, OR BUYING GOSSIP MAGAZINES...
REMEMBER JOHN LENNON'S WORDS - POWER
TO THE PEOPLE!
WE LET YOUTH HAVE THEIR SAY IN 1997
Back in 1997, Curtis Irish, Pete Perry, Jane James and Joe Pilgrim went out into the streets at The Hyde, Stevenage, and spoke to the youth that hung around the shops. Together, they formed STEVENAGE ACTION FOR YOUTH (SAY), and campaigned for a youth centre at a derelict shop at the shopping area.
Today, it is known as
THE HYDE OUT, and as well as being a centre for the local youth, it is also a tea and coffee bar, a clinic, and day nursery.
IF WE COULD DO THAT AT THE HYDE, WHY NOT MAKE IT A NATIONAL POLICY?

This Greedy Hogg stayed at home >, which is where, we think, he should
stay.
< These little lambs were sent to slaughter, in offer of sacrifice.
Anyone can see the irony of this, except for the Three Blind Mice.
Whilst most of us are tightening our belts due to the credit crunch, Tory Grandee Sir Patrick Cormack suggested to an enquiry into political sleaze

that MPs Annual salary should be DOUBLED from £64.766 to £130,000! Well, we are putting forward an alternative proposal to Parliament: Have you ever wondered why professional people get an ANNUAL SALARY, whereas the rest of us are offered a WEEKLY WAGE? Even though, nowadays, most people are paid (on direction of the Government and banks) direct into a bank account every month? It is the old case of 'Them and Us' of course: THE CLASS DIVIDE IS VERY MUCH ALIVE AND THRIVING.
SO HERE'S THE IDEA: Lets have a MAXIMUM salary of £240,000, (I don't begrudge people being rewarded for genuine hard work!) Which would then allow for a MINIMUM salary (not wage!) Of £24,000.
