Training/Handling Tips
This site is designed for any of you to ask questions that I can either answer for you or find the answers. I do need to state that I am not a follower of bait training in obedience nor of clicker training. So if your questions lie in those areas, I cannot help you but can, perhaps, refer you to someone who can. This will be primarily for novice and open obedience and for conformation and general manners questions.

If you have a question you would like answered, if you have a training problem or just need guidance in raising, training and/or showing your dog, please e-mail me and I will do my best to get you an answer within a few days. If it is a question that you do not want to share just state this in your e-mail and I will e-mail you privately.

Hope to hear from many of you.

QUESTIONS

1. How do I teach my puppy to come without going to a formal obedience recall? ~ BVB Collies, Ogden, Ut

2. What is the most common handler error you see in the conformation ring? ~ CM Saint Bernards, Phelan, Ca

3. I just cannot seem to house break my puppy. I have had him for about 4 months now and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I put him out and leave him for an hour or more, but he still will just go in the house without asking to go out. I want him as my buddy and companion but am afraid he is going to be an outside dog if he keeps this up. This is a West Highland WhiteTerrier. ~ LR, Real Estate Agent, Las Vagas, NV

4. Devil has been doing really well in Novice work and I had my sights on my first CD. He had easily progressed to the point where he could be trusted offlead and seemed to need no more than polishing to get him ready for the shows. I am in a panic. Devil will not do a thing. Even on lead, his heeling has become terribly sloppy, he will not sit without correction, he refuses the recall, brakes his stays and just generally acts like a totally untrained animal. ~ Nancy White, Azusa, Ca.

5. I have a three month old Rhodesian Ridgeback. I don't want to formally obedience train her yet. But, I do take her everywhere with me and I want awell behaved animal I can enjoy and be proud of. My main concern is that when we get off the truck at various stops, she will not come to me when called. She has discovered the game of catch me if you can. ~ Russ Martin, El Monte, Ca.
