Set in 1925 Nome, Alaska, Balto is the story of a part wolf/part husky who becomes a legend and a hero. Balto is an outcast in Nome, shunned by both the people and dogs because of his mixed breed background. One day, a serious diphteria epidemic breaks out among the populace of Nome. The town's hospital does not have enough anti-toxin to deal with the flood of diphtheria stricken children and sends an urgent request for more but a fierce blizzard closes off all routes of transportation. Nome's only hope is for a team of sled dogs to race 600 miles through the storm to bring back the medicine. The team becomes entangled in the blizzard and looses their way and now it is up to Balto to rescue team and save the children. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
