Hints : To be successful in Geometry. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1. Review Skills and concepts learned in Algebra 1. Including: *Graphing Linear Equations * Writing the Equation of a Line * Finding Slope of a line, of parallel lines, of perpendicular lines * Simplifying polynomials Combining like terms Using FOIL * Solving Quadratic Equations By Factoring By using the Quadratic Formula 2. Justify your solutions and statements. Be able to respond to the questions, "Why did you do that?" "How did you get that?' "Why do you think that is true?" Your reasons should be supported with logical reasoning, mathematical properties, or geometric postulates. |

Course Overview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1. Learning the Basics of Geometry (Points, Lines, and Planes) How do points lines and planes fit together to form this interesting branch of mathematics. 2. Reasoning and Proof: In Algebra we proved that our solutions were correct by using algebraic properties of equality and by showing our work. In geometry we will prove that our conjectures are correct by constructing a T-Proof or by writing a paragraph proof to justify our statements by using valid reasons in the form of postulates, properties, and definitions. 3. Lines and Angles: After studying the relationships between lines and angles we will apply those concepts to the coordinate plane. This is where your knowledge of Algebra will really come in handy. Go back and review if necessary. 4. Chapters 4-11 are dedicated to Plane Geometry, Polygons, and Circles. Our studies will include properties of those polygons and circles with their perimeters and areas. Our study of similar triangles will also include some trigonometry. 5. Solid 3-D geometry is covered in chapter 12 where we sill study Platonic Solids, Surface Areas, and Volumes. |
