VIRUSES IN THE ENFOLDING UNIVERSE
An Allergic Reaction to Amines
Illness is discussed in the article Illness in the ENFOLDING UNIVERSE. Click here for article .It has never been proved that viruses cause disease. There is no question that viruses coexist with disease, but it has never been established the viruses cause the disease or that the disease causes what is termed as a viral inflection. It is known that in some cases the state of a given disease might exist without the accompaniment of the virus asserted to be causal of the disease and that the virus might exist unaccompanied by the disease. It has equally never been established that bacteria cause disease. Louis Pasteur (1822-1895), who is generally considered the founder of microbiology, never proved his germ theory of disease for the reason that a state of illness and bacteria infestation never completely coexisted. The brilliant French physiologist, Claude Bernard {1813-1873},regarded as the founder of experimental medicine, never accepted the germ theory of disease. Before his death Pasteur himself was convinced of the validity of the criticism of Bernard of the germ theory of disease. Many people, in absence of experimental proof of the germ theory, believe that Pasteur proved that bacteria cause disease. The theory of disease most consistent the experimental evidence is that disease is in the nature of allergic reactions to amines and that waste productes of these reactions are falsely treated as bacteria and viruses that cause the diseases of which the are merely waste proiducts.
For more than a hundred years the scientific community has never reached a consensus over what viruses are {see the article Are Viruses Alive? by Luis Villarreal, Scientific American , December 2004--Dr. Villarreal is director of the Center for Virus Research at the University of California, Irvine}. Scientists have had immense difficulty in pigeonholing viruses. Viruses were first believed to be poisons, then as life-forms, and then as biological chemicals. The are now in a gray area between the living and nonliving. Consistent with viruses` being waste products, they cannot replicate by themselves but inconsistent with their being waste products it was believed that they replicate in living cells. It is clear, however, that the growth of a waste product is not the same thing as the growth of a life form due to replication.
It is generally believed by microbiologists and physicians that viruses have a profound affect on the behavior of their "hosts." The evidence, however, does not establish that host behavior is caused by the coexisting presence of the viruse but only that such behavior is coexistent with the presence of the viruse. There are many other conditions in cells that are coexistent with disease and viral waste products, and it has never been clear why the scientific community has presupposed viruses as causal of disease. Once a connection is presupposed, other presuppositions are formulated to support the original presupposition and paradigms are formulated and thereafter become unquestioned by the average scientist. Without evidenciary support of viruses as causal of disease, we must look elsewhere, and we must consider whether disease is a result the malfunctioning of bodily processes themselves and not caused by external agents.
Amines are substances of a class of compounds derived from ammonia by replacement of hydrogen atoms by one or more univalent hydrogen radicals containing hydrogen and carbon. As discused in an article on the hydrogen molecule, hydrogen is biatomic with the molecule being comprised by two contrasting atoms. Hydrogen as a molecule itself does not exist in a monoatomic state. Amines are involved in biological and chemical processes of the body and would be coexistent with diseased and non-diseased states of the body and would be a possible candidate contributing to a diseased state of the body. It is clear that biological and chemical processes of the body must exist in all manifestation of disease. It is equally clear that as a result that its molecule is biatomic, hydrogen has the capabilty of forming into many combinations of radicals containing both hydrogen and carbon.
Amino Formation
Amines formed during biological and chemical porcesses of the body do not ordinarily result in a diseased state of the body. We are not allergic to amines that we ourselves produce. We have, however, the capability of allergic reaction to amines we obtain from other people. These amines would be present in the cells that are believed to contain bacteria and viruses that are believed to cause disease. These amines, for many reasons, are more likely candidates contributing to disease than are bacteria and viruses. There is immense evidence that bacteria and viiruses are waste products but amines are clearly not waste products. Disease, in short, is not caused by external agents but by the body`s response to agents not produced by the body and to which it might be allergic. The flu pandemic of 1918-1919 had many features more consistent with amino acid mutations being causal than a virus, a waste product of mutated genes for which persons, especiallly younger persons, had not developed an immunity. For a discussion of the pandemic and recent research attempting to explain the pandemic, see Capturing a Killer Flu Virus by Jerrery K. Taubenberger, Ann H. Reid and Thomas G. Fanning, Scientific American , January 2005.
The body necessarily has allergic reactions to external agents, whether food, liquid, chemical, and biological. People differ immensely in their allergic reactions; and substances that are benign to most people might be malign and even poisonous to some people. Because of the omnipresence of amines, we do not seem to have allergic reactions to most amines. Those amines that would be negative to the survival of the human species would not survive under the Darwinian principles of evolution. Amines that causes disease from which the body usually recovers from would survive, and this is consistent with the fact that the body usually is able to recover from diseases caused by external agents. The natural condition of the human body is that of health and fitness, with our diseases ordinarily resulting from improper treatment of our bodies or our psyches.
The exceptional nature of the pandemic, both in its breadth and depth, with its sreading across Europe and North America, as well as Alaska and remote islands of the Pacific, has many features of allergic reactions to amines foreign to the victims and for which no defenses had been formed.. About one-third of the world population may have been infected. The pandemic started on September 7, 1918 at an army training camp outside of Boston. By Septemer 23, 1918 12604 cases had been reported in a camp of 45,000 soldiers. The death rate was immense, as much as 2.5 to 5 percent, and as much as 50 times the mortality rate of other influenza epidemics. It killed especially young persons. It would seem to be clear that amino acid mutations caused the pandemic, and had spread among younger persons that the had build up no defenses to the amines that developed from the mutations, with the defenses that older persons had developed against unmutated genes being sufficient for their being immune. Although recent research shows that mutations did occur during the pandemic in genes or in amino acid gene sequences, the presupposition that a virus must have been causal of the pandemic still persists. A waste product of diseased processes is being treated as causal of these allergic reactions.
In the late nineteenth century, scientists recognized that certain diseases, such as rabies and foot-and-mouth, were seemingly caused by particles that behaved like bacteria but were much smaller. Because they were biological in nature and could be spread from one person to another with obvious biological effects, researchers ended up treating a waste product of disease as causal of of disease. A more likely candidate would have been amines but since the body`s amines are ordinarily benigh the possibility that amines produced by a foreign body might be treated by another body as malign was not considered.
Crystalization of the Tobacco Mosaic Virus
Viruses were demoted to inert chemicals when Wendell M. Stanley and his colleagues in 1935 crystalized a virus--the tobacco mosaic virus--for the first time. They had crystalized a package of complex chemicals that lacked systems essential for metabolic functions, the biochemical activity of life. Instead of recognizing that their research showed viruses as being non-causal of disease and that the package of complex chemicals only served as an acompaniment of disease, viruses were reinterpreted as not being a life-form. Stanley shared the 1946 Nobel Prize in chemistry, and approriately so, and appropriately the Nobel Prize was not in physiology or medicine. It was a major achievement in chemistry but contributed little to our understanding of the physiology of illness.
Research by Stanley and others established that whatever a virus may be it consists of nucleic acids {DNA or RNA} enclosed in a protein coating that are believed to shelter viral proteins involved in infection. Regular viruses consist of DNA surrounded by the protein coating and retroviruses, such as HIV, consists of RNA surrounded by a protein coating. Thus, a virus seems more like a chemical than an organism. Although a virus seems to be dead and not alive, it is believed that somehow the virus when it intrudes a host cell becomes very much alive and instructs the host to produce more nucleic acid, thereby resulting in a diseased state of the victim.
A retrovirus is DNA surrounded by a protein coating and it has no DNA whatsoever. A non-retroviruses or a regular virus is DNA surrounded by a protein coating, and both forms of viruses need DNA to replicate. A retrovirus must use the DNA of the host cell to replicate itself, and thus cannot kill the host cell and replicate itself at the same time. A regular virus having its own DNA can kill the host cell and replicate itself at the same time. Prior to the estabishment of the AIDS paradigm, it was usually recognized that retroviruses were innocuous since they could not kill host cells and replicate themselves at the sametime. Those medical doctors that treat HIV as causal of that impaired state of the immune system termed AIDS have never explained how an innocuous virus could cause that impared state of the immune system. It would seem that a person with a very impaired immune system would become HIV positive because of his having AIDS and not a result of his being HIV positive.
Once it is recognized that viruses are the waste products of amino and bio-chemical processes,it would seem to be clear that viruses could not be and are not alive. Thus, even if viruses are causal in some way of biochemical processes of the body, a living entity would ordinarily be bounded by birth and death, and such bounds would not seem to apply to viruses. Living entities also thought to require, at least to some degree, biochemocal autonomy, accompanied by metabolic activities producing the molecules and energy required to sustain it as a living entity.
Viruses as Parasites
If living, viruses would seem to be parasites dependent upon the hosr cell for raw materials and energy needed for nucleic acid synthesis, protein synthesis, processing and transport. But, this asserted dependence seems to result from treating waste products formed during acid and protein syntheses and the effects of these processes as being causal of them. The most simple explanation of what is going on is to treat the apparent dependence as illusory only and not to submit to the presupposition of effects as being causal of the ongoing biochemical syntheses.
Dr. Villarreal, in his Scientific American article cited above, seems to treat life and consciousness are emergent properties of complex systems. Under the concept of the enfolding universe, it is the enfolding of form and force that gives rise to phenomena of our universe, with form and force being necessarily omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. In the enfolding, motion and matter emerge from interrelated centripetal and centrifugal forces, leading to the various and diversified phenomena of our universe.
