We sat at the "Last Stand Swamp" for about an hour and decided that we should start heading back.  Just as we made our way back though.  I heard hogs!  A bunch of them.  They obviously detected us but didn't run too far.  I again tried to stalk up on them but gone was the stealthiness of walking on wet leaves as the wind and 55 degree temperatures dried them up rather quickly.  Alas, the hogs had won this round!

We headed back to the campground, got cleaned up and decided to eat at a place called the Iron Skillet - a country truckstop with a little bit of everything.  Food was great and made the evening an pleasant one.  We returned to the campground to pack our stuff into the Jeep and get a good night's rest.

The next morning, we headed back up to Fairmont.  Stopping only a few times to eat and get gas.  We did manage to swing by Statesville, North Carolina where I introduced Bill to the IHOP we had eaten at during my cousin Jon's wedding.  We also made a stop at JR's to introduce Bill to a whole new realm of retail savings - much like my Uncle Roger!

A little bit of unpacking, some finishing touches on the boar processing and we were back to our normal lives.  However, for those few days we had a blast.  We outhunted the locals.  Didn't bump into a SINGLE hunter while we were actually hunting - though we did see them out along the road and took a boar to boot.  Having never hunted in South Carolina much less hunting hogs, Bill did extremely well and I honestly didn't expect us to see anything other than sign.  That's the price you pay for hunting on a do-it-yourself basis.  You don't have the time to scout areas like the locals do and all your time and effort is usually just learning the areas I've found.  However, we still bagged one boar.  Thanks South Carolina!  What a great hunt!  Where else can you hunt a big game animal for 5 days during the dead of winter and enjoy 55 degree temperatures for a few hundred bucks?  I'm sure this is one trip I'll be repeating in the future!
