These people think that their way of thinking is so great, EVERYONE should run their lives this way. The problem is, this country is different, and lots of people think differently.
While I am not saying that their message is wrong, I do disagree most heartily with their methods of acquiring power, including the violence of the extremist groups, the "guerilla political action" of people like Ralph Reed, and the outright lies they say to spread the message.
THE TOP TEN LIES OF THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT
1) The First Amendment was designed to protect religion from government, not the other way around. (How do they know this? Besides, some have called for its abolishment)
2) Abortion should be illegal because killing babies is wrong. (Abortion clinic workers, on the other hand, seem to be fair game for the extremist groups)
3) The rise in teen pregnancy and violence in school can be directly linked to the absence of school prayer. (Actually, school violence and teen pregnancy rates are down)
4) Since evolution cannot be proved 100%, we should stop teaching it and only teach creation science (We can't prove anything about creation, though)
5) Homosexuality is wrong, it says so in the bible. (Do we take everythig in the bible at face value? besides, it says it is an abomination, whch translates as "ritually unclean"-similar to eating pork)
6) This is a Christian nation (Not with at least 30% of the population NOT Christian)
7) The Ten Commandments are the model for American law (only 2 are actual laws, the other eight are religious or behavior oriented)
8) All that scientific evidence of evolutiuon is just God's way of testing our faith. (God doesn't work like that)
9) Jesus said, "If you're not with us, you're against us." (Actaully , he said, if you are not an enemy, you are a friend.)
10) Students should be allowed to pray in school. Those who do not wish to wouldn't have to. (Studies have shown that group prayer is coercive, and students who do not pray are often singled out for abuse and ridicule)
