After the World Trade Center terrorist attack, the nature of two leaders of the religious/political moverment called the Religious Right once again was exposed.
On television, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson said that some of the blame was to be put on the shoulders of such left-wing people as abortionists, the ACLU, and those that lobby for homosexual rights, supposedly because if the country were more godly, then God would not have allowed this to happen. The statement was later retracted (largely because I believe they got a number of death threats against themselves) but even so, this gives more insight into the hateful minds these leaders have.
Then, a representative of the conservative reiligious group Traditional Values Coalition (Rev. Lou Shelton) put out a statement saying that same-sex partners of gay people killed the attack should not be able to get benefits. Well, I believe that it is statements like this that show just how sick and evil these people are. At a time of national tragedy, we have the religious right stirring up the same old message.
Frankly, I'm surprised that they have as many followers as they have.
