ANOTHER MASSIVE UPDATE!!! Sorry about the lack of updates, but things have been quite hectic since our return from vacation. Where to start...? We had an appointment to speak with both a perinatologist and a genetic counselor after our return. The perinataologist was mostly concerned about Bridget and what would be done the next time she gets pregnant, whenever that may be. It is a given that any subsequent pregnancies she has will be treated as high-risk and will be monitored closely. The genetic counselor is obtaining all medical records pertaining to Royce while he was at both hospitals, in addition to the pathology results in the autopsy...and also any tissue samples that may have been kept after his autopsy. The concern is that the nesidioblastosis he had experienced, though quite rare, may actually be the symptom of something larger. Though this may take months to ascertain, we will keep you posted on new developments. Well, the 2002 RogueFest is over and done with. As you know, PARACELSUS was a performer, and we were the second band onstage at the festival. There was no time for a proper soundcheck. As I was strapped for time, I was only able to tune three of the four bass guitars I used for the set...I was never even able to warm up. I managed to step on the instrument cable and unplug myself near the end of the very first song (Yikes!). Well, as luck would have it, the one bass I used for most of the set was the one I was unable to tune before the set started. The "D" string went flat on the second song, and I was unable to correct it right away...so I know I sounded like crap. Shortly after I fixed that problem, the stage monitors for our instruments went out (though the vocals stayed on). So now, none of us could hear what we were playing at all. I could if I stood right up next to the bass cabinet, but that wasn't really possible for the whole set. I will tell you that playing a musical instrument without being able to hear the sounds it is making is much like a pilot trying to make an instruments-only landing in fog or in bad weather! If I was hitting a bad note, I had no idea that I was! On the good side, we were all able to hear ourselves sing very well (as the vocal monitors remained on). I think I sounded better than ever, because I could totally hear myself sing (a very rare thing with a PA system). I was later told that I sounded great, especially on my lead vocal on "Starless". Overall, despite the technical snafus, things went fairly well. Everyone seemed to really dig our first original song (debuted at the festival) the most...a clear sign that we need to press on with more original material. *************************************** Congratulations to Lance Armstrong, who recently won his fourth-straight Tour de France! The crown jewel of cycling, I followed this event more closely this year than in years past. It was very exciting! For more details, visit the official Tour de France website, as well as Lance Armstrong's offical website. *************************************** Congrats as well to our friend Krige Schabort, winner of the men's wheelchair division of the Peachtree 10K Roadrace! In a remarkably close finish, Krige finished only hundredths of seconds ahead of seven-time Peachtree racer Saul Mendoza of Mexico with a time of 18:57.56. An international competitor, this was Krige's first Peachtree win. He and wife Caron are also expecting their first child soon, so further congrats are in order! Visit Krige's official website here. *************************************** The world lost a great musician in the form of John Entwistle recently. John passed away in his sleep of an apparent heart attack in Las Vegas while awaiting the launch of the latest world tour by his band The Who. His unique style of playing the bass guitar forever changed rock music, and showed us the possibilites of the bass guitar as a lead instrument. He influenced countless numbers of bass players (including yours truly...see my new INFLUENCES page)...he will be sorely missed. The surviving members of The Who, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, have carried on witht he tour. I think that this is a very brave decision. Go visit John's website at http://www.johnentwistle.com and leave a message of condolance to his family and friends worldwide *************************************** My sister Beth performed live for the first time with Silent Kids back on July 18th. Despite her nervousness, it was a great show! She did very well! The Silent Kids have a very psychedelic power pop sound, and have recently released a new CD. Visit http://www.silentkids.com for more info. *************************************** Next on Beth's agenda is Convoy. This is a special multi-media event, focusing on America's love affair with the automobile, and motor travel in general. There will be musical performances by several area bands, or at least ad hoc performances by musicians from several of these bands, as well as my sister chipping in. I will be contributing some bass and vocal parts to a couple of songs as well. Visit http://www.10-4goodbuddy.com for more information...though the site is not up yet. It should be a fun night! ...and now for the Updates... I have made some changes to the Games and Gaming pages. I have added information on one of my all-time favourite games, the ancient game of Chess. Not much there, but you get the idea. I also put up some info on the Sony Play Station 2 platform, which I happen to own. I don't get to play all the much, but when I do, I have a lot of fun with it! More updates to follow in this area. I have been slowly working on pages dedicated to my music, what projects I am involved in, etc. I also plan on having a musical influences dedication page and a gear page so you get to see what tools I use to assail one's ears with! I will soon be adding some pics of the PARACELSUS performance at RogueFest to both this page and the PARACELSUS homepage. Naturally, the pics on this page will be mostly of yours truly! I will also soon be adding some new pics of our little nephew Sammy, courtesy of his dad, Edgar. More updates to come...! |

More Big Updates! I have given the Main Page a bit of a facelift...it is still obviously a work in progress. Please email me with your comments and/or suggestions on the appearance of the main page! I have finally put up My Music pages, detailing my musical endeavours! Included are links to my musical influences and what gear I use. I hope that you will find these informative! Speaking of music...I am slowly going through a number of contacts regarding playing bass in a band...ther are no guarantees, but I am taking my time on this, and perhaps something may pan out...stay tuned! |
