Thomas Wentworth, "the most famous of the Wentworths", or possibly infamous.  B. 4-13-1593 in Wentworth Woodhouse England.  Son of Sir William. and Anne (Atkins) Wentworth. .D. 5-12-1641 Tower of London. Thomas was a very close friend and confidant of King Charles1.  Married 1st to Margaret Clifford, his son ( see below) had no children so his line continued though his daughter Lady Anne Wentworth Rockingham.Thomas was the Sheriff of Yorkshire, Lord Deputy of Ireland and Earl of Stafford.  He was Accused of Treason, tried and acquited, but was beheaded in the Tower of London nonetheless, the same group of peoplekept King Charles prisoner and eventually beheaded him as well in Jan 1649. William Wentworth, son of Thomas. B. 6-8-1626 Wentworth Woodhouse, D. childless 10-16-1695.  2nd Earl of Stafford.  His Sister was to carry on this Wentworth line.
