Benefit Gig Moneyspinner in Brum
posted 19-4-06
On Sunday 16th April, a benefit gig was held at the Market Tavern Pub in Digbeth, Birmingham. The event raised much needed funds for the Vegan Prisoner Support Group(VPSG) who do a fantastic job in helping animal rights and vegan prisoners of conscience, get food and toiletries whilst in prison. The 4 punk bands who played were Contempt, Eastfield(pictured), Bastards Trained by Bastards and Pog.
Before the gig started at 8pm, there were animal rights leaflet stalls, a talk by Mel Broughton(from SPEAK Campaigns) and John Curtin introduced Jill`s Film (an inspiring film about the life and death of animal activist Jill Phipps from Coventry). Animal rights punk CD`s were on sale and everyone tucked into a delicious vegan meal.

It was a great night out, and was enjoyed by all. The event was attended by upto 200 people in total and raised over £400 for the VPSG!! For lots more great photos from the gig,

The event came at the end of a week in which the animal rights movement learnt some shocking news. 4 well known activists from the Midlands have been awaiting trial for offences relating to
Newchurch Guinea Pig Farm for several months. All 4 changed their plea to guilty at the last minute, which will inevitably result in them serving long sentences in prison!!! We are not fully aware of the facts, but we do know that the police and the corporate media have since been slagging off the AR movement and printing many lies about our 4 friends. We can state without any hesitation, that the guilty plea does not relate to the stealing of Gladys Hammonds body from her grave, something many in the movement believe may never have actually took place!! WMAA know that any crimes they did commit, were carried out due to their extreme bravery and compassion for persecuted, abused and murdered animals!! The money raised at the above gig, will go towards making sure their needs are catered for adequately, until they join us, back on the outside.
