2007 Overview
The WNEC is pleased to report an eventful year, especially since our club has only been in existence for six months. This year, Western Newfoundland has seen more horse-related events than it has in many years, not to mention a huge increase in NEA memberships (at last count, well past the 50 mark).
The WNEC itself held two successful western showing clinics this summer, as well as an Open Barn Day - all in keeping with our club’s goals to increase the knowledge base of our members and encourage good horsemanship. We also assisted with the annual Humber Valley Horse Show, which is the main event of the year on the west coast. It was a pleasure to see how much the quality of horses and riders continues to improve each year. Our fund-raising efforts aided us in holding a small year-end gathering for everyone, which featured several guest speakers as well as an award presentation.
There were several other ‘firsts’ for Western Newfoundland as well this summer. Our very first Western Rider 4 Exam was held. The testing was conducted by EC Level 1 Western Coaches Darryl and Karen Murphy. Shelly Hoyles (and her horse Willow) exceeded the standards to become the only Western Rider 4 on this part of the island. The first Competitive Trail Ride was also held on the west coast. The event was organized by Cache Rapids Stable. We hope see more such rides in the future.
In closing, the WNEC is looking forward to the upcoming year. There are plans for even more events encompassing the areas of showing, recreation, coaching, education and much more.

Congratulations and job well done to all of the participants in the Silverwood Stable Schooling Show! As well, a huge thank you to Darryl And Karen Murphy for hosting the event! Though the forecast called for rain, the day turned out beautiful - perfect weather for riding. The show was fun and educational for everyone involved, riders and spectators alike.
