Captured By Indians One of the stories dad told me was of Dr. Charles Rose Harper and two friends traping in the mountains and being captured by Indians. The Indians made them gather wood and buffalo chips for the fire. The Indian women would hit them with sticks to make them work faster. They were locked in a mud hut at night to prevent them from escapeing, also under threat of punishment or death if they attempted escape. The son of the Indian Chief got very sick and Dr. Harper, having some knowledge of medicine, treated him and he recovered. Out of gratitude the Indian Chief allowed Dr. Harper to wonder freely in the area without being locked in a mud hut at night. The braves all went on a hunting trip leaving the woman to look after the captives. Dr. Harper waited untill everyone was asleep and released his two friends and they were all able to escape. This was told to me as a true story by my father. Sounds like good movie material, however my father never went to a movie to my knowledge. |
