DEDICATION

Alzheimer Angels started out originally as a small compilation of poetry written for/to/from my mother to me -then it grew to include my dearest friend’s mother’s comments to her daughter through me -then on to additional caregivers whose parents and spouses were afflicted with this disease. Along the way, lives were touched by the words which flowed from my pen, and I am forever grateful that God has granted me a gift which has the ability to change lives from the inside out…..

This particular book is dedicated to my own mother, Vivian H. Hanby, a self-taught musician of many many decades and also a self-taught artist (when the Alzheimers first began to show itself most pronounced)…..Please take the time to visit PAINTINGS -These pages reflect the beauty of her artistry, having never taken a lesson or seen the places of which she drew – along with my own poetry weaving throughout, centering in and around her as a person and also as my mentor in the last years of her life…..

It is very obvious to me how God used these gifts of art and poetry to get across His point: that He exists when all else has failed - and that life, however fleeting it may be, is to be held as precious in His sight as it is His gift to us all…… I hope those who read these pages will find the truth which I have found therein: that one person’s life can profoundly affect another, and change it forever. My mother was a woman of humble beginnings - a woman of no reputation - who spent her entire lifetime being grateful for whatever she received and whatever remained. She taught me lessons which I can only hope to live up to during the rest of my own lifetime and I miss her dearly……I love you Mom, forever and ever!!

THESE THREE

Lord, I thank you for Your blessings - how you looked deep inside
To see what truly matters - and to constantly abide ---
You've given me companions such as I have never known
Through Your Love mixed with their love - I've come into my own

My husband walks beside me - He's been here through the years
Oft fighting all my battles and wiping all my tears ---
My mother was a blessing - Although unknown to me -
Until her life was ending and 'twas time to set her free ---

And then there is my sister - a strange anomaly -
No one I ever sought for - Yet, You sent her to me -
She's touched by special angels who guide her every day
Her countenance is glowing - She knows just how to pray
She brings my heart true laughter, such as I could never dream
And teaches me the treasures that being close can bring ---

God, I am not always grateful for all You've given me -
But I take time to thank You, especially for these three ---
My husband, Mom and sister are all from up above
They've each convinced me daily that I am truly loved

Their constant reassurance that my life matters so
That I do have a future and places yet to go
Is slowly making inroads into my heart and soul ---
I'm learning of Your Mercies and how You love me so
Without these three influences to soothe my aching heart
I'd never find the courage to make a brand new start ----

So, Lord, please bless these angels - clothed about in mortal wear
Let them feel Your Presence and always know You're there ---
And when our lives are finished upon this world below
Please grant to me the honor - of Your crowns, to bestow
Upon the heads of each one - till they lay them at Your feet ---
So that they know they mattered ----
And made MY life complete.......
