Guatemala
Small cooperative organizations are formed by peace corps volunteers and other nationals.
These cooperatives are a small effort to give equal opportunities to both men and women.
In one small cooperative organization of weavers, the women who were working on the big loom were earning more money than the men because they were more skilled, experienced, and accurate.
The jails were full mostly because of domestic abuse and fights.
Now that the men and women are at about the same level, with men (on average) earning as much or more than women, the jails are less full and there is less domestic violence, and a significant decrease in domestic disturbances in the workplace.
The first priority of women in  Guatemalan families is the husband and the children.
If a woman wants to go to classes or study, she must eother go behind her husband's back or attempt to be free of 100% of her responsibilities, which will most likely end up in a bad domestic battle between herself and her husband.

Amazonia
"Poor, long suffering, hard working, strong silent women."
There are many differences in tribes, many different beliefs.  The equality varies between tribes.
The Bari Tribe (wilderness areas of Colombia) have some sexual divisions of work tasks, mostly gardening and agricultural differences.  For example, men weave hammocks while the women gather and spin the sisal (the material for the hammocks).
Both sexes participate in fishing and house construction and chores.  If the women prefer to work in the fields, the men take care of the children.  There are female and male healers, and singing is led by both sexes.
They work comfortably together, unlike the Mundurucu tribe of northern Brazil.  They have a segregated society, adult men sleep in the men's house and females live with female relatives.
The man moves to the village of his wife, making bonds between sisters, mothers, daughters very strong.  Men have more political and religious ceremonies, but less family ties and less bonds.  Divorce is common, either sex is able to end a marriage.
