English 309: Electronic Texts

The Path that Led Me to English 309

In the Beginning...
Once intimidated by the thought of touching a computer I never dreamed that I would take this course.  However, I have come a long way in the last four years.  I now enjoy working with computers and use them for everything from emailing to surfing the web.  As a student of this generation there is no way I could get by without using computers and the internet, so I am glad that computers and myself are on better terms.  Over the last couple of years I have gained experience with computers and the web and finally have the courage to take Dr. Dennis G. Jerz's 309 course.

Why take 309?

English 309 interested me simply because I wanted to learn more about writing electronic texts.  I have had the opportunity to edit and redesign web pages, but have never really created my own pages or done much writing for any web projects.  I hope 309 gives me the opportunity to do these things.

What do I hope to gain from 309?

Although I use the internet everyday and read more online that I do in my textbooks I know that I have a lot to learn before I can effectively convey information over the internet.  In 309 I hope to:
 

• Become better at  writing  blurbs

• Become more conscious of small details

• Become a better electronic text writer

• Perfect my ability to make useful web pages 

• Further my budding relationship with computers  

• Learn something about interactive fiction

• Learn things from my classmates 

• Enjoy doing all of these things

To Sum it all up...

At the end of this semester I hope to succeed in meeting the goals I've listed above.  When I look back at how inexperienced I was with computers (not to mention how afraid I was of computers) and compare that to the experience I have gained over the years I am confident that I will be able to progress towards  these goals in 309.
