When summer breezes softly blew,
And there I heard so sweet a tale,
That oft I wished it could be true.
They said, at eve, when rude winds sleep,
And hushed is ev'ry turbid swell,
A mermaid rises from the deep,
And sweetly tunes her magic shell.
And while she plays rock, dell and cave,
In dying falls the sound retain,
As if some choral spirits gave,
Their aid to swell her witching strain.
Then summoned by that dulcet note,
Uprising to th'admiring view,
A Fairy island seems to float,
With tints of many a gorgeous hue.
And glittering fanes, and lofty towers,
All on this Fairy isle are seen;
And waving trees, and shady bowers,
With more than mortal vendure green.
And as it moves, the western sky,
Glows with a thousand varying rays;
And the calm sea, tinged with each dye,
Seems like a golden flood of blaze.
They also say, if Earth or stone,
from Verdant Erin's hallowed land,
Were on this magic island thrown,
For ever fixed, it then would stand;
But, when for this, some little boat,
In silence ventures from the shore-
The mermaid sinks- hushed is the note,
The Fairy isle is seen no more!
Fairy Clothes-These are sometimes made out of Spider's silk,
Fairy Food- The Fairies often enjoy a glass of Honeysuckle Dew
Fairy Hobbies- The Fairies love to dance!
Fairy Rings- These are circles of mushrooms or toadstools and if you step inside one, you are able to see the fairies.
Things Fairies can do- Fairies are able to put curses on those who are horrible to them or others. They tend the gardens, look after nature and look after us! They are also very good healers.
The Land of the Fairies- This is sometimes known to humans as "The Land of the living heart"
Fairy Gifts- The Fairies sometimes leave gifts to humans, these are often jet-Black stones.
Fairy names- Fairies are sometimes refered to as the "spirits of the air".
The Hades Theory - "Faeries are the souls of the unforgiven dead, waiting to be reunited with their bodies at Judgment Day."
The Naturalistic Theory - "Fairies are a continuation of a prehistoric belief in nature spirits"
The Mythological Theory - "Faires are the diminished figures of the old pagan eltic divinities."
The Psychological Theory - "Faires are the manifestation of a worldwide doctrine of souls, and part of the universal animistic spirit."
The Actual Theory - "Faeries are a real race of supernatural beings."
