Motivate
young people to
be better citizens. The Woodlawn High School JROTC program is the number
one JROTC program in the city of Birmingham, AL. We have approximately
300 cadet students in the program. The program has five special teams
consisting of an armed drill team, an unarmed drill team, a color guard,
a marksmanship team, and an academic challenge team. We try hard to expose our cadets to as many events and
teamwork activities as possible. involvement in community service and
participation in competitive events strengthens the cadet's character
and instills leadership and the importance of teamwork. The Woodlawn JROTC special teams compete locally,
state wide and in National drill
champion competition. Just last year our armed drill team placed first in
the nation for challenge level exhibition drill at the national
championship meet in Daytona Beach, Florida. The JROTC
office is covered with trophies our kids continue to bring home. The
program has also won the SKAGGS trophy of excellence three years in a
row. The cadets participate in a multitude of community and fund raising
activities such as neighborhood clean-ups, School clean-ups, drill exhibitions, posting the colors, parking lot duties, ushering, to name
just a few. We are proud of our program and cadets and strive continuously for excellence with
the highest of standards.
