The High School

Woodlawn High School is the proud home of the mighty Colonels.  It is located right on First Avenue North  in east central Birmingham, Alabama.  The institution is a magnet school for grades 9 through 12.  It has an enrollment of approximately 1400 students.  Mr. Allen Lewis is the principle.  Woodlawn High School has a rich and traditional history dating back to 1916.  Many famous men and women have graduated from Woodlawn High.  A plaque is mounted inside the front door to honor these former students. To name a couple, Bobby Humphries, football great, and Florida State's head football coach, Bobby Bowden are Woodlawn graduates.  The JROTC program was established at Woodlawn in 1922, and has been active here since.  Over the years, many General Officers in our armed services started their military careers right here with our JROTC program.
