WRESTLING REPORT FOR THE WEEK OF:

04/29/02

So Hulk Hogan is the WWF Champion again. Who would have thunk it. Recently won at BACKLASH, this is Hogan's sixth WWF World title reign. Add that to his 6 WCW World titles and that gives him a total of 12 World titles over all. (Or 13 if you count the last one in WCW he took from Jeff Jarrett.) One can hardly expect this title reign to be a long or popular as previous WWF ones but it will be as long as the WWF needs it to be. Talk around the water cooler says that this may be his final WWF heavyweight title and that it is the way Hogan wanted to have it, one last hurrah before "retiring".
Eddie Guerrero is the new IC Champ after beating Rob Van Dam at BACKLASH. Sheesh, the guys off with a drug problem and in his first ppv match he wins a title. I would have liked to see RVD hold the title for a year. It's been a while since we have had a long title reign and I think RVD could have been the one to pull it off. He was the ECW Television Champion for a year and was only stripped of it due to a broken leg or something. I know that it seems that the days of long title reigns are over and change is what keeps fans of today interested but I think such a reign could be a refreshing change if its done with the right talent. The last time anyone held a title for a considerable length of time was 1994/95 when Kevin Nash held it for just a couple of weeks shy of a full year. Now I don't think we are ready for a long time World Champion but an IC champ would be just what the Doctor ordered.
JUDGEMENT DAY is on May 19. So far the only match confirmed (and that could very well change too) is The Undertaker vs. Hulk Hogan for the Undisputed Championship. Personally I think it has the ability to be built up to a great main event. Don't forget, Undertaker and Hogan have fought for the title before with each of them winning the title from each other.
This week on SMACKDOWN Hulk Hogan will defend his title against Chris Jericho.
How about the Big Show re-joining the New World Order. What is it?the third time he's done this? The only interesting thing that may come out of this is Flair turning heel and being behind it after all.
The WWF has announced that the July and December pay per view names. December will go back to being called ARMEGEDDON and July will adopt last December's title and be known as VENGEANCE.
Lita has injured here neck and will be out for some time. Apparently on the set of DARK ANGEL she fractured it in three places. OUCH! Her recovery time is expected to take 6 to 9 months. While she's out watch the "Lita's pregnant" rumors fly around.
Ken Shamrock is said to be interested in returning and he and the WWF are talking.
A Rumored main event for this year's SUMMER SLAM is Steve Austin vs. Hulk Hogan.
