"I, Tallah-Ahn-Ri, Half-Vampire, place these words onto paper because I am beginning to forget. I have forgotten my name. I am forgetting what my life was before I became this thing that I am. When that is gone I shall lose the last that is in me of what was once human..."
"Persequor Persequi Persecutus..." Thus begins the Journals of Tallah-Ahn-Ri

"How did I come to be this way, as you see me now? Not yet dead yet no longer living. Shunned by the light and not welcomed by the dark. Existing in neither world and both. It has been three-hundred years I think, I'm not sure now, since I was brought to the edge of Creation by my Master Amado Aleron, a ceremony he never completed."

"I would like to say that it was by supreme strength or inner resolve that I resisted, but I was none of those things. I was a lost child, a runaway girl, someone who needed desperately to belong. I was beautiful, or so I was told, better to say that I was innocent. My Master found me beautiful as one who has waters to spill looks upon an empty vessel. He was very old and very powerful and he took me from the streets, raising me up to sit at his feet. He educated me in his own fashion. Effor, Oro - Latin, the Voice of the Dead. Reor, Cogito - To think my own thoughts as he gave them form. In my youth and misery I believed him to be my salvation. I did not understand where my actions would lead me - only that I was protected and that I was no longer alone..."

"When John took me it was no act of kindness but of necessity. This strange crossing of moments altered my fate - for we live in what is and what must be. I never asked him what he meant to do with me. I felt safer in my ignorance. But Time makes companions of burdens and he kept me all through his days and taught venor, purgo, the Hunt and the Kill to me. Amado taught me love for my Father. John taught me love for my Teacher..."

"Then I wandered in my grief. I now understood what I had cast aside and was angry. The Durslain found me and took me. He saved me as I was, for I did not know how to live as a vampire. I walked through those iron doors and looked not into the night sky for one hundred years..."

"Rebel is proud of his Dark Blood and loves the night. He had sought out that doorway, walked through without looking back. In the full of his manhood, beautiful and strong, he is the kind of vampire that mortal women open their windows for. He is also a Stalker, enforcing the Dark Law from his own side..."

"What can I say about Lucas? Forever I will bear the mark of first passion that he laid upon me. There were many bitter things between us that I now regret. Yet he was there before Amado, before any of the others, and always we came back to each other. Now he is gone. My heart grieves his passage..."
