Six Words

The poems and limericks featured on this webpage are responses to a six word challenge. Participants on our message board write poems or a story each morning that incorporates a featured list of six words. Paul (AHikingDude) wrote these, and if you would like to participate, follow the link to our Senior Links board. You'll find the link near the bottom of the index page.

musical, agile, peninsula, phooey, O'Flannery, shortbread

O’Flannery was agile, the truth be tell.
He stayed on at the Peninsula Hotel.
He ate shortbread
In his musical bed.
At the crumbs he said “Oh, Phooey”, or was it “Oh, H***”?)

***

putt, Plebe, lime, rue, IRA, Idaho

Putt, Putt, went the lime-green limousine.
With as Plebe Ian a driver as ever seen.
You’ll rue the day
That your IRA
Went to Idaho in a car that’s green.

***

commotion, ballad, refill, kiwi, galaxy, Elmer

Poor Elmer had caused a commotion
(The galaxy felt the emotion)
When he sang his ballad
Of kiwi fruit salad
Then refilled his cup with mango potion.

***

pattern, rendezvous, sipping, begrudge, honorable, "Nannerl"

Tracing the pattern of their rendezvous
Was not an honorable thing to do.
I will not begrudge
Sipping milkshakes of fudge.
Nannerl and Wolfgang will probably want two.

***

syrup, ogling, strife, elegant, nonsense, Hippodrome

There was a cyclist in the Hippodrome,
Who thought it was his elegant new home.
With strife and with syrups,
And nonsense like stirrups,
He was ogling the pedals made of chrome

***

Bolshevik, topsy-turvy, peppercorns, nibbling, devoted, hereafter

The Bolshevik
Became quite sick
From nibbling on peppercorns.
Topsy-turvy?
Devoted? Scurvy?
Hereafter strange foods he scorns.

***

cuspidor, wishful, disposed, dynamite, catch, Nefrititi

A wishful young girl in the store
Was disposed to buy a cuspidor.
The one with Nefertiti
(The catch was the graffiti)
Would be a dynamite purchase for sure

***

evolution, promises, borax, sipping, grass-green, fudge

The grass-green fudge arrived on a plate
As I was sipping my snifter of brandy.
Not what one would anticipate
Not after the promises of candy.

Evolution has done some strange things.
Some things aren’t easy to explain.
The hope that 20 Mule Team Borax brings,
Is the hope of removing the grass-green stain.

***

Godzilla, triangle, cascading, vanilla, purpose, lazy

A lazy young chimp named Godzilla With cascading bangs like a chinchilla, Said: “Nope! Bowls are round. A triangle, I’ve found, Defeats the purpose of ice cream (vanilla).”
