Volunteer on the Executive
Every September and January we hold elections to the board of executives. Positions are open to everyone-regardless of experience. It is a great way to get involved in and learn about International Development and help to plan events on campus. Volunteering on the executive for a WUSC Local Committee has been the doorway for many students into finding work overseas. The WUSC group offers a resource pool for meeting others who know about and have resource information for Development and Human Rights issues, events, news and organizations. The executive attend weekly meetings and plan events.

Positions: Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator, Treasurer, Secretary (Minutes and e-mail), Publicity Coordinator, SRSP Officer, Transportation Coordinator, Webmaster, Faculty Advisor
Volunteer for Events
If you would like to be involved in WUSC but cannot make weekly meetings and/or prefer different tasks from those listed above you can volunteer to help out at WUSC events on campus. Contact us via e-mail.

Past events include: Clubs Days, Potluck, Symposiums and Conferences, Speaker Series, Info booths at Development events and lectures, posting event fliers, writing press releases /articles
Assist the Student Refugee Sponsorship Program
see page: SRSP
The SRSP has two phases of volunteering (we prefer to have most of the same volunteers in both phases to provide continuity for the program and the student).

The first phase is the application, selection and preparation for sponsoring a student from abroad. Tasks include:
arranging registration, housing, budgets, transportation from the airport, orientation week/month, sending info packages and correspondence with the student and with WUSC Ottawa.

The second phase involves the arrival of the student and their integraton during the first year at the university. The Local Committee is expected to provide strong support for the student's first school year. The Committee carries out the orientation session which includes tasks such as
arranging all university paperwork and cards, tours of the campus and city, arranging transportation, initiation to food shopping (etc.), arranging and explaining social services (i.e. SIN Card, provincial health card, bank account, travel documents, citizenship/landed immigrant status, loan and grant programs), university services, job markets, etc.

The SRSP committee acts as a "friendship network and support system" to the student. Some volunteers in the past volunteer as friends, like being a partner to a foreign exchange student, and doing activities together such as going to movies, shopping, going to shows or fairs, teaching swimming or bike riding, joining clubs together, going to dinner or lunch, parties, skating, skiing, etc. SRSP requires a fairly large body of volunteers committed as friends - we want you!
