Slightly used gaskets been around for a while????  Try soaking them in water overnight and they should swell up a bit so you can re-use them. This works especially nice on carb gaskets!!
Can't afford a serdi machine?? Try mounting a drill in a vice to reface valves. All you need is some wey/dry paper and some wd40 and you got refaced valves in no time. You can also use that drill as a lapping tool. Simply chuck the drill on the valve tip (lightly) with your compound on the seat and start lapping away. Every 2 seconds or so release pressure just for a second and then continue. walaa. you have just lapped your own valves, given your valves are in good shape to start with!
Can't afford all that expensive sheet metal for your ride??? I will admit to using some pretty oddball stuff on mine, but hey, metal is metal. I go through cars like water,mostly junk outs. Before i call the salvage yard I  will go at it with a cut-off wheel and remove all the good straight metal from the car. This metal is used for body work mostly. I also will remove the steel from old washing machines as it is thicker and works good for things like floors and fire walls

Nothing beats a good welder. there are a lot of cheap "buzzboxes" out there but when it comes to sheetmetal....you just cant beat a wire feed welder. fork out the extra cash....you wont regret it! btw..... they work equally well on most everything else!
runnin' a holley?? dont forget to remove the little screen inside the fuel bowl inlet. these lil' buggers can be a real pain if they clog, which they will. also if runnin' a Edelbrock carb they have screens inside the carb as well. another fast clogger. if you run a good fuel filter you dont need these cloggers anyways!
did you know...factory water necks from the 60's were made from cast iron and are actually better than any offered by the aftermarket since they resist warpage. not too mention they can be had for dirt cheap!
Have you ever pulled a motor and supported the trans with your favorite floor jack only to find out you need the jack for something else?? there is a easy fix to that.dig through your scrap metal pile or hardware store for a suitable length of pipe or tube that will span the frame rails. next find 2- 3/8" bolts and nuts. place the bolts through the 2 lower holes on your trans and spin the nuts on.place the tube or pipe under the bolts and gently lower the trans until it rest upon the frame rails. now go about your business with that favorite jack!
Are you constantly losing those hard to find bolts for your engine stand? drill and tap four holes on the lower leg of the stand. now you got a place to keep those bolts when not in use !
dont you hate those hard to reach places where it seems you can only get one finger in??  tape a small piece of double sided tape to your index finger and stick the nut on it. trust me, it works!
chrome breathers are cool. the oil that seeps out of them is'nt. go to your local store and pick up a super cheap sweatband! they come in a wide choice of colors and best of all, no more oily mess! just wrap the band @ the lower part of the breather. it will not interfere with the breather's job!
worried about your ignition box getting hot under the hood? go to your local radio shack a purchase a mini fan used to cool computers and such. you can either mount it directly to the box or fab a plate to mount it to. keep that hot ignition box cool!
late model GM big block truck spark plug wires have"grab handles that ease twisting the wire off the plug. they are easy to adapt to other applications as well.
Wires on top of any motor are ugly. try running them through a length of small pipe, like 1/2"- 3/4" . they can be chrome plated or painted your favorite color. it looks alot better than that ugly convoluted tubing that they sell.
Did you know that possibly the best distributor clamp is in fact a factory unit? the stocker always fits perfectly and provides the right amount of clamping force.
sometimes you will see a proffessionally built engine thats painted on the inside. actually there is a purpose. the paint is called glyptal and what it does is seal all the pores in the block and aids oil drain-back. i do it in all my engines!
quick tip: find the misfire by starting your engine a squirt a little water on each exuast tube. the one that burns away the slowest is the culprit!
