“Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and practice these principles in all our affairs.” Copyright © 1939, 1955, 1976, Alcoholics Anonymous World Service®, All rights reserved.
I had a sponsor who always said "Some people's actions speak so loud that I can't hear a word they're say'in." and "You have to act your way into good thinking, not think your way into good actions." I heard him say the words, but didn't understand the meaning until I was well past the ninth step in my recovery.
In time the Twelve Steps become a familiar tool for us to use as we face life dead on. There is also comfort in knowing that I do not have to face life alone. There is always God.
Still more…there are other sober alcoholics that have become willing to face with me the challenges that always seem to come at me when I least expect them.
Still more; I have become willing to share what I have learned with those who have just joined us on the Road of Happy Destiny.
It is in this sharing that I re-affirm and pass along what my sponsor and other sober alcoholics have shared with me. Experience, Strength, and Hope. By the time I began to share the gift of sobriety, my sponsor had passed beyond. I'd like to think he's looking at me from that Great Meeting saying "I hear ya kid! Keep Trudg'in!"
The Twelfth Step is about sharing. The Twelfth Step is about tradition. The Twelfth Step is about living.
