At first glance they may look like the same dress, but upon closer inspection they're far from it. On the left is a doll that has sold on ebay as 'Beechnut' (I haven't seen her in a catalogue or in box yet, so I can't confirm her identity). On the right we have the dress that was sold on a bright yellow haired doll with no Hornby markings. The upper part of the bodice is the same velvety material, but has a v neck instead of a delicately rounded one. The petal part (as with all 'coloured hair fairy fakes') is made from a slightly thicker material and is not cut like the petals on the 'Beechnut' dress, and also doesn't have the indentations of the Beechnut dress. The shading is also different. These differences are the same on all coloured-hair fairy dresses, but the yellow one is the one that is most like an existing Hornby design ~ although the others have a similar style!
It makes it even harder to believe that these could have been a prototype line, as why bother copying an existing dress? ( plus, as before: they dolls would have been stamped 'Hornby' even as prototypes wouldn't they? and there are so many of them around!! ) |
