Dallas, Texas band Drowning Pool had a huge breakthrough in 2001 and started off thier career with the hit "Bodies" and touring on Ozz-Fest 2001. Over the year following Drowning Pool sold 1.5 million copies of thier debut album "Sinner." In summer 2002 Drowning Pool toured on Ozz-Fest 2002, and this time were on the first stage and were part of the main act with System Of A Down, Adema, and Rob Zombie. On August 14 the band stopped in Manassas, Virginia to stop at a hotel. C.J. Pierce, Drowning Pool's guitarist, Steve Benton, the band's bassist, and the drummer Mike Luce all walked into the hotel and noticed that Dave Williams was not not there. They went into the tour bus and found out that he had passed away on the tour bus. The band was on the way to Washington to play another Ozz-Fest gig, and the night before they had just played in Noblesville, Indiana. Drowning Pool spokesman Steve Karos siad "He was someobody who knew how to entertain." Karos also said "He cared about his fans more then most artists and, genuinely, in his heart gave, everything he had every time he was on stage. David Dairmain, the lead singer of metal band Disturbed, said "I Don't Know A Single Person that has ever met Dave Williams and not just fall in love with him. After Ozz-Fest Drowning Pool had planned on hitting the studio for thier second album. Actor/Former Methods Of Mayham singer/former Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee filled in Drowning Pool's spot. |

In October Drowning Pool announced that Dave would have a memorial DVD out. Drowning Pool raised $250.000 to make the DVD from Drowning Pool fans. The DVD's sales are going to William's parents's new house. Dave's lifetime dreams was to get them a dream house. The DVD has ones of Dave's closest friends Dimebag Darrell from Pantara doing a 15 minute home video dedicated to Dave. David Draiman (Disturbed), Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society/Ozzy Osbourne), Sonny (P.O.D.) also made did tributes. Members of Adema, Rob Zombie, Seether, Finger Eleven, and Ill Nino also did tributes. The DVD was entitled "Sinema." |
