The walk takes three days to complete, 20 miles a day. A lot of people have asked me "where are you going to sleep?" The answer is, a mobile city! Each walker shares a two-person tent for the two nights during the walk, provided for us by the event coordinators. The mobile city has everything I might need in between walks, including shower trucks where I can take a hot shower, dining tents where I will get a hot meal, and nightly entertainment where we can relax, see entertainers, and get news and info. Volunteers transport our gear from campsite to campsite, so we don't have to carry our bags with us while we walk. |

...and then we walk.... The route takes us from Kenosha, WI to Montrose Harbor, Chicago, IL in three days. The whole event is very well organized, with the walking trail clearly marked and plenty of stopping places along the way. I have been walking at about a 3 mile an hour pace for 4-5 miles at a time without much difficulty. But, I am not going to make any predictions about how fast I will finish each day. I am going to try to finish as quickly as I can...free massages and hot showers are first come, first serve. |
The closing ceremonies take place at the end of the third day. There will be thousands of people there to cheer on the walkers as the finish this last grueling, emotional part of the walk. You are invited to attend the closing ceremony! Sunday, June 16, 4:30pm Montrose Harbor, Chicago |
Check this page again after the walk, I will let you know all about the walk and post pictures. Thanks for your support! |
