Its that time of year again! In this special biannual edition of Shadows Of Fortune Magazine, we sent one of our very own, Juan-Paul 'RipperDoc' Duvalier, to the Treaty City of Denver, where the whole crazy sixth world began! In his indepth report, he rates the Runners Of The Divided City Ahh, yes, readers, I report to you from Denver, Treaty City, divided since the Treaty of Denver back all those years ago. Denver's always been a hotbed of activity, as corporations, governments and criminal elements fight for control..in the light, and in the shadows. Recently, with the expansion of the Free Trade Zone and the coming down of walls between the various segments, cross-sector oppurtuinities have opened up all sorts of possibilities for Denver's Not-So-Finest to cut their teeth, earn their wings and make a name for themselves. So it's to be expected that skilled individuals are numerous, and its hard to pick only ten runners that truly stand out from the pack. Over a period of four weeks, I checked my sources, flashed my special Shadows Of Fortune press badge (It gets you all sorts of places) and now I can bring you... |
Denver's Demons : Top Ten rated Runners. |

Peter P, or Pete as he is known, isnt the flashiest kind of runner, and with good reason. Like many, Peter has a background in the military, however his is more as a mercenary than as a government or corporate soldier. Recently retired from battlefield duty, Peter has come to the Treaty City to unwind, and to take up a new profession..shadowrunning. Seemingly capable at what he does, Peter brings a certain military discipline to a team he is on. However it's this rigid military training which hampers him and may continue to keep him at the bottom of the list. He is decidedly better in a team than on his own, as this is where he can use his tactical precense to combat his shortcomings. Peter is new on the shadowscene, but promising after two or three successful high threat jobs. One to watch in future, and given the tenth position encouragement award. Hopefully we'll see him branch out in the future. |
Whisper brings the Savalette Guardian back into fashion with dual pistolling theatrics. Whisper is relatively new on the scene as well, but having worked with some of the higher rated runners in Denver, he's picked up some tips, on purpose or not. For a long time the Sav', nickel-plated, poor barrel cooling and all, has been "passe" for respectable street samurai to tote since evey man and his chia pet owned a Sav' shortly after they hit the market. No longer. The Sav' is back, and its got a twin brother. Whisper is a little specialised, but shows promise, with the light feet common to elven kind, his stealth, natural talent and longevity should see him become honed into a first class shadowrunner, if he can avoid the fatality statistic common with our profession.s in the meantime. |
Amanita has been on the scene for quite a while now. Originally from Detroit, key clues point to her past in one of the major corporations, Universal Omnitech. Amanita comes across as a runner with a strong corporate background, and the amount of task she performs for Universal Omnitech and their corporate allies suggests that the company had a large part in her upbringing. Whatever the reason, Amanita is damn fine at what she does, which are quiet, low confrontational jobs. And like any good runner, she knows what she is good at it, and sticks to it. Unfortunately, this lack of breadth in her career limits her somewhat, and her demeanor makes her a little hard to run with on occasion. However if an employer ever requires a B&E expert in Denver, Amanita should be high on that list. |
