Episode 11: KNOCK OUT! The Seyruun Family Feud!
A wooden intersection sign is seen against a clear blue sky. All is peaceful, and birds are chirping. While Gourry is lying down, leaning casually against a nearby tree, Lina has her arms crossed in the middle of the crossroads. She puffed up her face in annoyance, and then yelled, "Why won't he come?!"

"You can wait here," Gourry replied nonchalantly, in a bored tone, "but I doubt he'd come to a place like this." Lina turned around, and assured him that "the prince" would be coming down that road according to the information she'd gotten.

Gourry looked back at her doubtfully. "Okay, maybe there is a rumor about Prince Piriri-whatsis of the Seyruun family traveling around secretly..." "Prince Philionel!" Lina yelled back. Their discussion continued, with Lina firmly believing that she'd know the prince the instant she saw him; it would be "perfectly obvious". In Lina's vision, the prince was dignified, and really handsome, too. He had blonde hair, and a charming smile. Gourry asked what Lina would do once she saw the prince - "Kidnap him and hold him for ransom?"  Lina told him that was ridiculous. "Any prince that sees me will be so terrified of my power... uh, scratch that... He'll find me so beautiful that he'll propose on the spot!" Lina said dreamily.

Lina assured Gourry that she was very serious about the situation. However, since Gourry wasn't patient (or believing Lina, for good reason), he decided to go ahead to the next town before Lina. Indignantly, Lina sat down in the middle of the road, not intending to move. "I'm not letting this chance slip away!" she declared.

Gourry gathered water from a nearby river. Suddenly, he heard cries of help. A merchant was being mugged by a bandit. "Now listen! You keep this up, and I'll take your life, too!" the bandit yelled. "Give me all your money!" The merchant begged for mercy. Gourry sighed. "Here we go again..." he muttered, as he prepared to take action.

Suddenly, the voice of a young girl was heard: "Hear me, fiend trapped in the heart of darkness! Sheathe that sword which has been dipped in your evil soul!" Gourry looked around in confusion for the source of the voice. The bandit looked up as well, demanding to know who it was; the merchant was equally confused. "Obey me, or else feel the hammer of justice!" the voice continued. When the bandit demanded to know where the speaker was, she announced, "I'm right here!"

Up in a tree, there stood a young girl with black hair; she wore tan clothing, along with a cape. Energetically, she yelled as she leaped down from the top of the tree, with the sun against the back of her, rather dramatically. To the bandit she seemed to jump, until she landed... flat on her face.

A strange silence followed, which involved everyone staring at the strange girl. Dust blew in a classic "nothing's happening" kind of way. Gourry darted over, and, squatting, tapped the short girl that had fallen. "Hey, hey, hey," he muttered, with each tap.

The girl's eyes flashed, and she suddenly leaped backwards in elaborate flips. Tripping over a rock, she fell over, and then righted herself again. She pointed her finger at the bandit, and told him to "prepare himself". When the bandit taunted her, she got angry, and cast a Diem Wing, the wind sending him into the river. When the bandit continued to say that "you won't get away with this", the girl once again lost her temper, and cast a Burst Rondo, resulting in a charred bandit floating away along the river.

"Man, that's harsh," remarked Gourry. "A fitting end for those who stand against justice!" the girl declared, standing proudly. The merchant went up to the girl. "Uh, excuse me..." he muttered. The girl didn't even give him a chance to speak; she "replied" that there was no need for thanks; a job well done was thanks enough. The merchant was speechless after that remark. Turning to Gourry, she asked. "Hey, by any chance would you be..." - Gourry looked back expectantly - "...a pet shop owner?" she finished. Gourry promptly fell to the ground at her question. When he asked what would make her think that, she replied that you should never judge people by their appearance; that would be wrong. "So it's better to assume that someone works in a pet shop for no reason?" Gourry asked in disbelief. "So, you really are a swordsman?" the girl asked, turning to him. Gourry replied that he was. The girl then asked if he would help her with something; she would gladly pay him. "Well, we can talk about that. But there's something I want to ask you..." replied Gourry. "Why did you show up on top of that tree before?"

The girl clenched her fist in a "justice-like" fashion, and began to talk energetically again. "You need to ask?" she responded loudly. "Warriors of justice have always done stuff like that!" Gourry looked at her with distaste. "Bye!" he suddenly said, and proceeded to walk away. Immediately, the girl told him to wait, and tailed him by clinging to his shoe. The rescued merchant, all this time, was surveying the scene with increasing incredulity.
It was now evening. Lina was still standing in the middle of the road, and, sadly, she realized that the prince wasn't coming. "Better go..." she decided, defeated.

At a nearby restaurant, Lina is seen gulping down food. She decided that she felt a lot better about "being a total loser" after she'd eaten some food. Suddenly, a large wild-looking black-haired man and a smaller dignified-looking blonde-haired man entered the room. "A priest and a bandit traveling together?" Lina asked. "Something's not right here." She eyed them suspiciously. The blonde-haired man came up to her, and, finding out that she was a sorceress, asked if she would help him with a job. "Want me to get rid of that bandit boss with you?" Lina asked, looking at the black-haired man behind him. "Bandit? Oh, no!" the man said. The bandit walked over, with Lina looking at him with increasing suspicion.

Before the black-haired man sat down at the table, he said that he would like to prove his identity. With that, he stuck a sword into the ground in front of the table. Lina stared at the sword, and saw the royal crest of Seyruun. "Is that...?" she asked hesitantly. "Exactly," the blonde-haired man explained, confirming Lina's suspicions. "That man traveling with me is none other than Crown Prince Philionel el de Seyruun." Lina looked in disbelief, and then fell over. She couldn't believe that this wild man was the prince. "You're serious?" she asked. "Dead serious," the blond-haired man replied. "NOOOOOOO!" Lina yelled, and the image of her dream of the handsome prince crumbled to dust. She lay face down on the table, defeated.

"Are you all right?" the blonde-haired man asked. "Actually, I'm not," Lina replied, getting up, and sighing. "I would expect you to be surprised," the man replied, and explained how the prince had been traveling in secret. At that, Philionel nodded his head. Lina sighed again. "No, that isn't what surprised me," she replied, her hand supporting her head.

"My name is Randy, and I'm the attendant priest," the man explained. "Could I have your name too?" Lina, still moody, muttered, "Lina... Lina Inverse." Randy turned to the Prince, and they muttered an "ohhh" of recognition. Lina brightened. "Does that 'ohhh' mean I'm famous?" she asked eagerly. Philionel promptly leaned across the table, his eyes wide open, and said, "You're that magic girl?" Lina sweatdropped at this.

Randy further recognized her as "the bandit killer", and informed her that he'd heard all the rumors. Lina fell over again, and went back to her previous moody state. "Which rumors?" she asked. "Isn't that what you call yourself wherever you go?" Randy asked, confused. "No, not really," Lina replied, nonchalantly. The Prince told Lina that she may refer to him as "Phil", since there was no need to be formal in secret travels.

As the discussion continued, Lina learned that she was to take the job of a "monster exterminator", since there was a cave nearby that was full of them. Philionel had decided to get rid of them so they wouldn't be a danger to people, but Randy alone wouldn't be able to destroy all of them. They also don't have any soldiers, so that's where Lina comes in. Lina looked at Phil's large, strong-looking figure, and told him that he looked like he could handle himself in a fight. "Oh, but no matter what I look like, I'm a strict pacifist!" Phil replied, and laughed annoyingly.

Lina, however, continued to doubt the mission, and informed the two that she needed to catch up with her companion soon. "Oh, but there will be a reward involved," replied Phil. Lina's eyes widened with glee at this, and announced, "Then my companion can wait!"

A bright sun shone overhead; it looked like that next day had begun. Randy and Philionel walked tall and proud through the woods, while Lina limped along far behind. "I'm hot... I'm hot... I'm hot..." she complained. "What's with this weather today?!" Randy looked back, and asked if something was wrong. Lina complained about the heat, and Randy replied that it was because of the "stifling costume" she was wearing. "Well, excuse me for wearing it!" Lina said haughtily. "I've had it! I'm taking a bath!" "A bath?" Randy and Phil asked in unison, looking at each other in disbelief.

A small waterfall poured over the rocks into a small pond in the next scene, and Lina is seen by the side stripping off her clothes, and getting ready to go in with a towel. She walked over to the pond, humming, and suddenly exclaimed, "Agh! It's cold!", as she tested the water. Winding up, she shouted, "Fire... Ball!" With that, the Fireball blasted into the pond, exploding, and consequently making it hot and relaxing. Lina smiled, saying "that's better".

Lina lies back, no longer wearing a towel, in the hot water. "That feels great...." she muttered, content. Philionel and Randy suddenly came rushing into the clearing where the pond was situated. "Miss Lina! Is something wrong?" Phil asked. "What was that explosion?" Randy asked, voicing their concern.

Surprised, Lina got up out of the pond, and turned to face the source of the noise. Exposing herself, she earned a pair of wide-eyed, gaping stares. Screaming, Lina shouted, "MEGA BRUNT!" A huge blast struck Philionel and Randy, and, smoking, they fell to the ground, their gaping stares stuck on their faces. "Uh, sorry... Reflex..." Lina said, sheepishly, now carefully covering herself.

A darkened landscape is seen among jagged rocks poking out of the ground, and an expectant mood is about. "This is it," Phil announced, as the three stood before an ominous cave. "Hmm... Looks like it's an old ruin..." Lina commented. "Maybe somebody's tomb." Randy muttered his own opinion; he'd heard that there were quite a lot of monsters living inside that cave now. "And that their boss is lurking somewhere deep in the cave," he finished.

"I can bring down the whole mountain from here in one shot!" Lina announced. Phil turned around abruptly, and scolded her not to go around carelessly casting spells. Lina realized that he was still mad about what happened before. "Come on, I healed you both, didn't I?" she muttered sheepishly, twiddling her thumbs. Phil, still standing tall, announced that they would most definitely not blow up the mountain. He believed that if the creatures within were taught right and wrong, they would peacefully go away.

Going into the cave, with a glowing dagger as a light source which Lina no doubt cast, Lina informed Phil that she couldn't use her really big spells in such a narrow place.

Suddenly, the three came upon what looked like small wild pigs. "Ores," Lina announced. "I can take care of them with one spell shot. Phil disagreed with her decision, and instead wanted to talk to them. "'Talk to them'?" Lina repeated. "Phil knows how to speak Orcish?" she asked Randy. "Not a word," he replied, at which Lina sweatdropped, and promptly fell over.

Phil announced that they had to either had to step aside, or face the wrath of the "brutal sorceress" behind him. The Ores, seeing how menacing that Phil looked, squealed, and ran away. "A pure and true heart wins every time!" Phil announced, laughing his annoying laugh. "Sounded like a regular old threat to me..." Lina said, under her breath. "Forward, my friends! Forward!" Phil shouted, leading them on.

Next, they saw a huge monster towering over them. "Stand aside!" Phil ordered, but the monster wouldn't leave. Lina, seeing it was her turn, made him retreat after she cast a Balus Rod. After that, Lina destroyed increasingly unnecessary creatures, including a troll, a minotour, a salamander, and a vampire bat.

"Makes you feel sort of inadequate, doesn't it?" Phil muttered to Randy, referring to how quickly Lina exterminated the "monsters". Lina suddenly called, "Hey, take a look at this! I see something up ahead!" Phil and Randy caught up with her, and they together saw a huge door with a strange symbol on it. It was undoubtedly the boss's door.

"It's time to see!" Lina shouted, and slammed herself against the door. Embarrassingly, it didn't budge, and then she pushed hard against it, gradually making it open. Phil and Randy entered as well, and they saw a large empty chamber. A figure sat in a golden chair at the end of the room, and it laughed. "I've been waiting for you, Prince Philionel" he announced, as he stood up. He was a red-haired and red-bearded man, clad in a blue and black costume, with spikes on his shoulder guards.

"You fiend!" Phil shouted back. "How do you know my name?" Lina, however, promptly burst into tears, and everyone turned to look at her. "Don't call him a prince! Please!" she shouted, tears streaming from her eyes, and her head getting exaggeratedly large. Everyone else fell over at this comment.

As the mysterious man awkwardly used his chair to get back up, he announced that their journey had ended. Phil asked why the man was opposing him, and then Randy started to laugh. "Because I asked him to!" he announced. "What?!" Phil asked, himself and Lina both surprised. "Don't forget that I'm third in line to the throne!" Randy announced, looking menacing now. "But I've had to live in the shadow of my overblown brother. Lina looked back and forth between Randy, a short, medium-statured, dignified-looking, blond-haired man, and Phil, a tall, large-statured, wild-looking, black-haired man. "But you don't look anything alike!" she declared. Phil, however, said that it was true. "Oh, so this is just a family feud, huh?" Lina asked, frustrated.

Randy explained that he had asked the red-haired man, a magician, to set up this whole scheme, and that he had been responsible for the monsters in this cave. "And what will you do when the kingdom is yours?" Lina asked, getting serious. Randy stared, wide-eyed, and sweatdropped. "Uh... Well... I just sorta wanted to rule and stuff..." He obviously had no idea what he was getting himself into. "You know, there's plenty of would-be kings like you," Lina replied, regaining her cool once again.

"Shut up!" Randy shouted. "Get 'em, guys!" With that, many monsters suddenly appeared out of the sidelines, and began to advance on Lina and Phil. They were trapped. The monsters appeared to multiply even as they just stood there.

Suddenly, the clear voice of a young girl rang out. "Wherever evil exists in this world, the wrath of justice shall strike it down!" Randy, and all of the monsters, stopped at the voice, and looked about for the source of the voice. When Phil looked up, he saw the same strange girl that Gourry had met earlier. "Amelia?!" he exclaimed, surprised, even as she continued to rant about justice. "Gourry?!" Lina shouted as well, and it's seen that Amelia's high place this time was standing on Gourry's shoulders. Gourry sighed, embarassed, and sweatdropped. "Oh God... please don't look at me..." he muttered.

"Daddy!" Amelia shouted. "Daddy, I finally found you!" Lina did a double-take, several times, and announced that they didn't look anything alike either! "Perhaps not, but she's my very own daughter, Amelia," Phil announced. Lina fell over.

"Okay, everyone!" Amelia started, bright-eyed. "Prepare yourselves!" She jumped off  Gourry's shoulders, hit the ceiling, and then landed on the ground. This caused all of the monsters to fall over, and caused Randy's jaw to hit the floor. Gourry scooted in at the same position he did before, and said, "Hey, hey, hey," as he poked her. Amelia promptly reacted, doing backflips once more. Tripping over a rock, she was saved from a fall by her father. Once again, she warned the bad guys to beware the power of justice.

"Shut up!" Randy shouted, regaining his composure. "Get 'em!" he shouted to his monsters. When the monsters advanced on Amelia, she fired spells at them, defeating them. "What's with her? Is she a hero freak or something?" Lina asked Gourry. "I dunno," Gourry replied. "She just told me that she was looking for her father, and that she needed my help."

All the monsters had been defeated, and Randy and the magician had to summon a brass demon with their power. The demon looked menacing. "Oh, they were actually able to summon it," Lina muttered. "Is it tough?" Gourry asked. "Sort of," Lina replied.

Amelia, meanwhile, was unfazed, but Phil had had enough, anyway. He started to sprint toward the demon. "Stop! You can't handle it!" Lina yelled, but for once, she was wrong. He yelled out the names of his attacks as he assulted the brass demon - "Pacifist Crush!" he hollered as he punched the demon square in the face. "No way!" Lina interjected. "Kindness to All Creatures Kick!" he yelled, as he finished his attack. "What the heck?!" Lina asked, as the brass demon dissipated into nothing.

Randy and the red-haired man looked on in disbelief, but then they regained their composure, and summoned many more brass demons. Amelia sped her father through the air with a Diem Wing, and Phil finished off all the demons in one hit with a "Goodwill Towards Men Smash". The air itself flashed as the battle ensued.

Now Randy and his magician were out of ideas, and one muttered, "Come forth, anybody!" Amelia stared towards them, bright-eyed. "Uncle! Give up your evil ambitions!" "I'm... I'm the king of Seyruun!" he yelled, stubbornly. "Fireball!" Amelia gasped, and then prepared a blast of her own. "Fireball!" she yelled, fighting back. "No, you idiots!" Lina shouted. "You know what'll happen when those two things hit??" As the fireballs came into contact, a huge explosion blew up the cave, taking Randy and the magician with it. Lina, Gourry, Amelia, and Philionel barely ran out of the cave in time.

Phil looked back towards the cave, and muttered about how Randy shouldn't have thought such foolish thoughts. "Daddy, you're so mean!" Amelia told her father, when she was asked why she was searching for him. "You always take off in secret on all these neat adventures, and you never tell me!" "So you came to find me?" Phil asked. Lina suddenly came up to Phil, and apologized for the interruption. "Could I... uh.. have the reward money?" she asked.
Phil laughed sheepishly, and said, "I'm sorry, but Randy was the one who had all the money." Lina sweatdropped in frustration, and she asked Amelia if she was carrying any. "I spent all my money trying to find my daddy!" she exclaimed happily. Lina fell to the ground once more, and Phil said, "Dont worry. You can have as much as you want when we get to Seyruun!" Once again, he laughed his annoying laugh. "Seyruun? Seyruun isn't anywhere near here!" Lina yelled, complaining. "Well, no one's forcing you to go," Phil replied, as the mood turned to a  comic one. "But we'll gladly accompany you." "It was a pleasure meeting you!" Amelia said, politely and energetically. "Believe me, the pleasure's all yours!" Lina sobbed comically.

Lina walked slowly along the road. "So, our party has gotten a little bigger," she narrated, as the sun shone high in the sky. "One's a mountain bandit, and the other's a loony hero-worshipper." Phil is seen holding Amelia up on one shoulder, and they both strike a justice pose, while Gourry has a dazed disbelieving look on his face, sweatdropping and shrugging. "Scratch that," Lina thought. "They're really the peace-loving Prince Phil, and the princess, a short-fused sorceress-in-training... Why me?"
