Episode 5: ESCAPE! Noonsa, the Flaming Fish Man! |
Panning upward past a stone wall, Lina is seen grimacing behind a window. "It feels like there's a hundred bees buzzing inside my head," she groans. "So, you're awake now," Zolf says, to her surprise. Lina gasps, and strains to escape from the ropes that bound her hands, hanging from the ceiling. "No use trying to struggle," she's informed. "Seems we overestimated her." The entire castle is seen from outside, in the light of the moon. Outside, Rodimus is guarding the door. He looks around, making sure no one is trying to get in. "That's right. They caught me," Lina remembers. Then, she realized something else. "Where's Gourry?" she asked suddenly. Her enemies informed her that as soon as Gourry had seen that she was going to be captured, he ran. "Dumped you, huh, little girl?" Zolf taunted her. Lina, however, was unaffected. Dilgear leaned close to her, and told her that they were wrong for assuming that she was carrying the Orihalcon statue. "Where is it?" he asked her. "Who knows?" Lina asked back, not revealing anything. "You gave it to that man? Is that it?" Zelgadis asked, as usual ahead of the situation. However, he was puzzled as to how they had lost track of the statue. When they tried searching for it, they still couldn't find it. "How did you do it?" he asked Lina. "I slapped a protection spell on everything like that," Lina informed Zelgadis, to his surprise. "I figured you were using magic to track that thing. But with that spell on it, you'll never be able to find where it is." "You can do that?!" Zelgadis asked, surprised. He couldn't understand why she used such feeble magic against him when they had fought. Lina sighed. "I didn't even give you a taste of my true power!" she yelled. Zelgadis stared back at her. "You don't seem like an idiot... but why use such cheap tricks against me?" After a pause, he said, "Of course. It's that time of the month." "Lay off!" Lina yelled back. While Zolf and Dilgear looked sheepishly at each other, Zelgadis and Lina's discussion continued. Zelgadis decided that they would have to keep Lina alive until they discovered the location of the Orihalcon statue. He told Zolf that he would be able to do anything to Lina, as long as he didn't kill her. At this, Zolf grinned. "For all the pain you caused me, I'd like to thank you with a little payback!" Even though she was bound, Lina was still able to kick Zolf square in the face. He decided that he would teach her a "painful lesson". Calling Dilgear over, Zolf asked him to smile. Dilgear smiled naturally, and asked, "Like this?" This was certainly not what Zolf had in mind, and, after stamping down on Dilgear's foot, Zolf got him a "smile" that showed off his sharp fangs. "Uh, guys...?" Lina asked hesitantly, looking at the foolish display of punishment. "Now, unless you want to be ripped to shreds, you come clean and tell the boss where the Orihalcon statue is!" Zolf told her, still holding Dilgear's "smile". "The Orihalcon statue is..." Lina started, trailing off quietly. Zolf leaned in closer and closer so he could hear what she was saying. As soon as he was as close as he could be, Lina yelled as loud as she could into his ear. Yelling, Zolf was thrown back into the wall. Lina laughed at how stupid Zolf had been; it was the oldest trick in the book. Zolf got even angrier at how Lina was making fun of him. "Noonsa!" he called. "Hey, Noonsa!" Lina, not knowing what was going on, got a semi-scared look on her face. "What, is it my turn?" a deep voice boomed. A door opened in the room, and water poured in like a rushing stream. Lina looked carefully at the door, and out came... a giant fish, with arms and legs. Lina gasped in surprise, fear, and disgust. Zolf laughed evilly. "Now, give her a kiss," he told Noonsa. "WHAT? A kiss??" Lina shrieked. "Get away! Get away!" Lina screamed, as Noonsa got closer and closer. This situation was definitely not to Lina's consent. Suddenly... . Outside, Lina's horrified scream was seen shaking the whole castle. Back inside, it's seen that the "kiss" involved Lina's entire face trapped inside Noonsa's mouth. "The smell..." she complained. At this, she wrenched herself free, and, enraged, kicked Zolf, Noonsa, and Dilgear aside with one blow. Zolf was even angrier than before, now. "What kind of way is that to treat a girl?!" Lina demanded. "You gangly, knock-kneed, third-rate magic-using mummy man!" Sparks began to shoot from Zolf; he was that angry. Dilgear tried to hold him back to prevent Zolf from killing Lina, but he was beyond all of that in his rage. Stuffing a wad of paper into Lina's mouth to make her shut up, Zolf began his ultimate torture... "Little runt!" he taunted her, as Lina protested by unintelligible angry cries. "Pig face! Flat chest!" Zolf continued, darting around her. "Shrew! Saucer-eyed egomaniac!" Continuing, Zolf could only make Zelgadis and Dilgear look on with shocked interest. "If I'm third-rate, you're fifth-rate!" Zolf laughed. Once again from outside, Lina's unintelligible cries shook the castle. Elsewhere, a village is seen, and people are just standing around in the streets. Gourry is seen approaching a girl that, from the back, looked a lot like Lina. "Lina?" Gourry asked, placing his hand on her shoulder. "Not her...." Gourry decided. Looking at the girl's chest, he decided that it DEFINITELY wasn't Lina. "Pervert!" the girl screamed, slapping Gourry to the ground. Afterwards, Gourry entered a restaurant, and approached the bartender. "Do you know a girl that looks like this?" Gourry asked the bartender, showing him a piece of paper. "Are you kidding?" the bartender replied. "I don't know any monsters." Gourry looked back in surprise. On the paper, there was, comically displayed, a crude picture of Lina with yellow eyes, and a lizard-like face. She was up in the air, looking angry, and fire was spurting from her mouth amidst her sharp fangs. "I thought I drew it to look just like her..." Gourry said to himself, sighing. The bartender told Gourry to calm down, and poured him a drink. Gourry settled down, and went into thought. "I don't get it. Where'd she go?" Gourry asked himself. Not knowing what was going on, he started trying to figure it out. "Now, let's see..." Entering a flashback, Zelgadis is seen firing the Flare Arrow that separated him and Lina in the battle. Gourry is fighting Rodimus and Dilgear, and Zelgadis sprints off after Lina. After some time passed, Gourry is standing in defense against his two opponents. Suddenly, a brilliant light flashed in the sky. "There's the signal," Dilgear was saying, and they rushed off toward Zelgadis's sign, knowing that Lina was captured. Gourry just stood there looking after them, confused. In the present, Gourry ponders what happened. "But why did they suddenly run off like that?" he asked himself. Thinking hard, he finally realized: "Of course! They must have captured Lina! That's it!" After being happy over figuring out the situation, he realizes something: "This is a disaster!" he shouts, and sighs, pathetically. Back at the castle where Lina is held captive, the moon shines over the place, peacefully. Rodimus seems to be asleep at his guarding position. But, he's suddenly woken up by the sound of a very odd, creepy chime. It's ringing effect seemed to echo through the night. Blinking in surprise, Rodimus suddenly lapsed back into sleep. Through a window, Zelgadis is seen asleep. However, his sleeping figure is gasping quietly, probably from some strain or bad happening in his dream... In his subconscious, we see that he's having a dream about a young boy, swinging a sword. Looking at the hairstyle, it's very obviously Zelgadis, when he was younger. However, his face had none of the strange skin that he had now, with rocks embedded in his skin. He was just an average human here. He continued to swing his sword. "I want to be strong! Strong! Strong!" Zelgadis yelled, swinging the sword all the harder. A staff with several rings on the top of it is seen striking the ground, and makes the same odd sound that Rodimus had heard. Zooming in, Rezo the Red Priest is seen holding the staff. The air in the dream darkens with a harsh feeling. Rezo glows a hellish red, and the light made him look very evil. His eyes still closed, foreboding music is played. Zelgadis gasps at Rezo. Teleporting closer and closer, Rezo advances on Zelgadis, Zelgadis still gasping. Suddenly, the robes on Rezo seemed to come to life. The ends of them grew, and formed into what seemed like tentacles. As they bound Zelgadis, they electrocuted him, and Zelgadis yelled in pain. Rezo, still with his eyes closed, simply continued to look on, and he laughed a low chuckle. Bringing his staff up again, he rang it, and the chime echoes everywhere, with Zelgadis still shouting and gasping amidst the electricity. Zelgadis's hands, then feet, then hair, and finally face is seen transforming from the normal human qualities to the colors that he has now in the present. His skin turned a bluish shade, and rocks grew on his skin. His hair also turned bluish. During the transformation, Zelgadis simply stared wide-eyed in disbelief at what was happening to his body. Suddenly, Rezo seemed to have disappeared from his dream. Bringing both hands to his head, Zelgadis screamed in agony toward the heavens. Zelgadis suddenly sat up on his bed, awakening from his dream. Gasping for breath, and fear, he looked at the features of his skin. "Damn you, Rezo..." Zelgadis mutters, determination glowing in his eyes. Back in the room where Lina is held prisoner, Lina, Dilgear, and Zolf are all asleep. Dilgear and Zolf are laying on the floor, and Lina somehow managed to lapse into unconsciousness while hanging from the rope. The soft snoring was broken by the sound of Lina muttering in her sleep. Suddenly, she woke up, and realized that Zelgadis was right beside her. "Be quiet!" Zelgadis warned, drawing his sword. Lina gasped in fear, and was just as soon cut loose from her bonds. As she landed on the ground, she opened her eyes in confusion. "Why?" she asked simply, bewildered as to Zelgadis's intentions. Zelgadis threw the sword back at Lina, along with her cape. Lina climbed clumsily to her feet, and faced Zelgadis. "You must have fallen for your lovely captive, right?" she asked, giggling. Zelgadis stared back stonily at her, causing her to forget the idea. So, with that, they escaped. As they walked through the nearby forest, Lina asked all sorts of questions. "Where are we going? What are you doing? Are you going to talk to me? You're leading me into another trap, aren't you?" Zelgadis simply stared ahead, so all Lina could do was follow. Lina decided that it was better than being back where she was before, and dropped the matter. Zelgadis informed her that she may reverse her statement before long... Stopping at a lake, Lina drank some of the freshwater. Zelgadis told her that he didn't want to drink anything, and that, if she was done, then they should leave. Lina looked back at Zelgadis, and saw that he was nervous about something. She wondered what was could cause him to be like that. Seeing that she was staring at him, Zelgadis asked simply, "You find my face that freakish?" This lead to an awkward situation in which Lina assured him that she meant nothing of the sort. Then, from the water, Noonsa, the fishman from before, was seen rushing towards them. Zelgadis still had his back turned and his hood on from when he assumed that Lina had been staring at him. When he heard a queer quiet splash, he turned around suddenly. And gasped. Lina was gone, and a light ripple on the lake showed him that she'd been captured. Lina was being pulled downwards by Noonsa, and letting out air. As they both landed on the floor of the water, they turned to face each other. Noonsa wanted revenge from when she had kicked him, and started to do so by running towards her waving his arms up and down. Lina simply jumped aside, and Noonsa ran headlong into a rock. "What a moron," Lina commented, not believing that he'd smashed into the rock that easily. Back on the surface, Zelgadis muttered, "Damn, such a bother." With a few hand motions, he cast a Ray Wing, encasing him in a protective bubble, and he began to descend into the water within it. Down below, Noonsa pulled his face free from the rock, and launched himself at Lina while she was trying to get away. Lina was running out of air. When Noonsa landed on the ground, she debated what to do, but couldn't find a solution. As Noonsa began to launch spikes at her from his fins, Lina knew that she was about to run out of air. Suddenly, next to her was Zelgadis in a protective air bubble. Rushing into the bubble, she sighed with relief, and breathed heartily. After she thanked him, Zelgadis informed her that he was only doing this until he recovered the statue. Until then, he couldn't let her die. "Oh, whatever," Lina muttered back. Noonsa sprinted toward the bubble, firing spikes all the way. The shots were uneffective; they merely bounced off the Ray Wing harmlessly. Zelgadis and Lina shifted out of the air bubble, probably Zelgadis's doing, and Noonsa ran into it. Now that Noonsa was trapped inside the bubble, Zelgadis shot a Fireball directly inside. A brilliant explosion shook the place, and the water above the explosion shot upwards with a splash. Noonsa floated up to the surface; he was dead. Lina and Zelgadis could already be seen at the shore, looking at Noonsa. Lina looked toward Zelgadis, and thought, "He took care of Noonsa. I still can't trust him 100%, though..." Zelgadis, as usual, paid no heed to her, and looked seriously ahead. Lina and Zelgadis resumed their trip once more, and Zelgadis lead the way, running through the forest. "Taking out his own guys and going after the treasure himself. It could just be a plan to get me to trust him. But still.." Lina thought to herself. They came to a steep slope downwards, and continued down it. While Zelgadis coolly slid down it with his right foot out in front, and landed on his feet, Lina slid awkwardly down, and landed in a heap. "Ow! Zero points for style!" Lina said. Zelgadis warned that if Noonsa came after them, then the others would be trailing them as well, so they couldn't lag about. "You're doing all this to get the statue right?" Lina asked him. Zelgadis responded that he was. "So, until then, you play bodyguard for me, right?" "Well, I guess you could look at it that way," Zelgadis replied thoughtfully. "Glad to have you, Zel!" Lina declared, slapping him on the shoulder. She discovered that it wasn't a good idea, since Zelgadis's body was made of stone, and shook out her hand, laughing. "You're a very strange girl," Zelgadis replied, and then chuckled himself. Lina did a little cheer and dance, since she'd finally gotten Zelgadis to laugh. Zelgadis suddenly stared stonily ahead again, and Lina stopped in her tracks. "What's wrong?" she asked. Looking back ahead, she saw what had stopped Zelgadis. "Rezo!" she exclaimed, and indeed, the Red Priest was before them. Zelgadis reached for his sword, getting ready. The image of Rezo's staff is seen again. Lifted upwards, the rings around it clinked together. As the staff struck the ground, it made the same familiar, odd, echoing ringing that haunted Zelgadis's dreams. Rezo smiled an evil smile, and chuckled to himself. Zelgadis clenched his teeth, staring ahead at Rezo. He was not the emotionless, but the determined and angry now. Lina stared ahead too, unsure what to think. The same red glow that was in Zelgadis's dreams was around Rezo now; the same hellish aura.. |
