Characters

Here's a list of all the characters and a short description of who you'll encounter on Xena's quest. They're written in the order you'll meet them in the game. When needed, there's a reference about their actual role in real Greek mythology and most of the times, you'll also see in which level you can meet them.

Xena

Xena wasn't always the good heroine she is now. She comes from the town of Amphipolis, which was raided by the evil Draco when she was younger. Filled with rage and a burning thirst for vengeance, Xena set up a band of dacoits and murderers under her and savagely attacked many villages. It was the demi-god Hercules who brought her to her senses. Ashamed by her cruel acts in the past, Xena now travels over the world doing good deeds to compensate for her previous behaviour. Saving Gabrielle every now and then is one of them!

Gabrielle

In one of the many towns that Xena attacked in the past lived a quiet, intelligent girl named Gabrielle. The notorious Xena took pity on the poor creature and instead of killing her, she took her with her on her journeys. It wasn't long before Xena and Gabrielle became best friends. Even though Gabrielle knows how to deal with weapons quite well, she more often uses her skill to tell stories to outwit her enemies.

Kalabrax

This black arts-mistress is the big baddie of the entire game. A one-time spy for the Titans, Kalabrax has sworn to establish the New World Order by sacrificing Gabrielle, an Amazon Queen. In the final level, Temple of the Pinnacles, it's up to Xena to eliminate this source of evil. (For a more detailed description of the whole Kalabrax affair, read the story.

Siras

Siras is one of Xena's many old friends and his hometown is a little village by the sea named Oebalus. When Xena goes to pay him a visit, she finds him dead, killed by Pactolus' pirates (in The Road to Oebalus). Her dear friend's death assures Xena that something is wrong.

Pactolus

This is the evil pirate king, who has been paid by Kalabrax to prevent Xena from finding Gabrielle after her kidnapping (the first time). His innumerable amount of pirates was supposed to scare off Xena, but in The Pirate King, Pactolus, our heroine forces him to tell her where the kidnappers have taken her friend.

Ares

Ares is the god of war. Even though he is not exactly a friend of Xena's, he actually is quite impressed by her and likes to pay her a visit once in a while (like in The Isle of Kronos). In Xena's mission, Ares won't trouble her since it's in the god's favour. But you should expect him once in a while.

(Real Greek mythology actually includes Ares, who is indeed, the god of war. He is the son of Zeus and Hera, and the half-brother of Hercules, and is famous for his love affairs with the goddess of love, Aphrodite, and the sons he had with her).

Valarian

This guy is a powerful king who is also one of Kalabrax' ferocious henchmen. He is the one who has imprisoned Gabrielle in an underground labyrinth in her first disappearing act. Xena will meet the human version of Valarian in Valarian's Secret. Also, in The Labyrinth, he turns into a dangerous Minotaur whom Xena has to tackle.

(About the Minotaur: the Greek hero Theseus originally killed him. The story is coming up soon on this page, so stay tuned!.)

Narsus

Being a Renegade Amazon queen, Narsus has turned many members of this warrior tribe against Xena, since she herself works for Kalabrax. In Lost Temple of the Titans, Xena gets a chance to kill her.

Dyzan

This huge dragon is the keeper of the gates to the Underworld. After Kalabrax locks Xena in the Underworld, Xena must outwit Dyzan in Dyzan's Lair to enter the Underworld and find Hades. (In real Greek mythology, the creature that guards the Underworld is usually Cerberus, a three-headed dog. More info about the Underworld can be found on this page real soon...)

Hades

Hades is the god of the Underworld. Lucky for Xena, he owes her a favour for some incident in the past. But he is quite hard to find. Look for him in Hades' Castle.

(Hades is one of the five chief gods in Greek mythology. There's a story about how he acquired his wife, Persephone. You can probably guess...it's going te be posted here soon.)

Fei

The Seer is usually the head of a village. Fei is the Seer of the icy village T'ir Na. Xena has to save him from Yat's henchmen in Rescue the Seer, Fei and Fei will then give her the Lyre of Orpheus, which is essential to enter the Mountains of the Pinnacles.

Yat

The evil druid Yat has captured the Seer of T'ir Na, and in order to destroy him, Xena must solve the puzzle of the Sanskrit inscriptions (in The Lyre of Orpheus). Yat can cast some nasty ice spells, so beware of getting too close to him.
