| Issue Five: Modern Nights |
| Most of you are familiar with the events of the last one hundred years, and so I will only briefly discuss them. What I will detail in depth are the most recent events of the past fifty years, when many odd occurrences have taken place. World War One Many of you were actually living at the time of this historical event. For the first time in history, there was truly a war that involved dozens of countries. During this horrific time millions died for inches of ground. The scars of this war are still evident in many part of northern France. What most young Kindred assume is that some kind of a shadow war was taking place during this time. When asked, many young Tremere apprentices assume that it was part of a war between the classes. These fools are left to burn in the sun; evidently they had failed the test left for them in the Victorian era. Any worthy apprentice should know that while kindred influence events, they are very rarely the driving force behind them. You would do well to remember this fact..... The real truth behind this war is simply that it was a war fought by mortals over mortal concerns. Sure, there were some Brujah that may have eliminated some rivals in the Ventrue clan, but this was simply them being opportunistic, not the reason behind the war itself. It was a mortal war. That's it. Prohibition Times During this time Kindred were swept up in the joy that abounded in the kine. During this time the Camerilla strengthened its holding in the New World, and continued to remove Sabbat influences from Europe. The only other significant note to some was the embrace of a young Ventrue named Al Capone, the infamous gangster. He resides to this day in Chicago. Depression While it is thought by many young Kindred that this was the time that the Ventrue lost a vast amount of power, this is simply not true. As you will learn, the rich never become poor; they simply move their holding to different arenas. This was a boom time for childer in the New World. Young princes, most of whom had taken power in the 20s found that they had a drastic influx of caitiff. Many of these....creatures.....would never have been embraced if the feeding wasn't so plentiful. Not only this, but many Kindred had adopted a softer view of unlife, and felt that it was wrong for them to needlessly kill one of the kine. To prevent this from weighing on their consciences they simply embraced their victims and proceeded to exit the city for the next. We are suffering from this period, as is seen by the general level of acceptance of the clanless. Mark my works apprentice, these things will be the end of the Cainite race, and it is up to you to aid Clan Tremere in eliminating this menace. World War Two The mortals were not the only people that were aghast at the destruction wrought by Hitler. Even the Caintes that had supported his movement were amazed at his seeming independence. I have spoken with two survivors of Hitler's Inquisition and they, in hushed tones, told me that it would be best if I never understood the horror of the purge. Hitler, through some means of his own, learned of our kind, and in the course of five years had managed to destroy over half of the Kindred of Germany. It was truly a terrible time for Cainite and mortal each. The only influence seen in this war was the influence of elders of varying clans that sought to remove Hitler from power. Nineties This past decade has seen a host of changes in both technology and the Kindred social circle. The internet and computers have become prominent in the mortal world, and this has forced many Kindred into hiding as the governments began to cross-reference their databases and detect anomalies. Additionally, the Anarch Free States have been at war with the foreign invaders from the East. They call themselves Kui-jin, and are a powerful and unknown force. The Camarilla has recently signed an agreement with them that would keep them in California, but whether or not they will honour their word is something different all together. The Sabbat has been on the move recently in the United States. Several cities that have for centuries been bastions of strength fell to the massive onslaught in '99. On a positive note however, the Black Hand's key source of strength, New York City, has recently fallen, in no small part because of the Tremere chantry located there. Another event that has occurred was the destruction of the Tremere antitribu. How exactly they came to perish is unknown, though it is believed that a powerful ritual was used, constructed by Etrius himself. However this occurred is inconsequential, the final result is all that matters in this case. In late 1999 the Ravnos Antediluvian awoke in India. While reports are sketchy, it is believed that it was destroyed.......while a good thing that it will not threaten the world, what its appearance implies is negative at best..... As is evident to any idiot, which you are hopefully not, this has been an....interesting century. What the future holds is sure to be monumental, and many Kindred scholar have warned that Ghenna is soon to come. Whether this is true or not is unimportant; so long as the Pyramid remains strong the Clan Tremere is certain to weather this storm. |
