                                                                                      Chapter 2
July 16, 1998
8:20 AM
FBI Headquarters
Washington DC

Special Agent Fox Mulder walked into his office.  He was holding a case file in a manila folder.  He pulled up a chair to his desk and sat down.  His partner, Dana Scully was sitting across from him reading the newspaper.  She looked up as Mulder sat down and she gave him a weird glance.  She was obviously angry about something and Mulder knew what it was about.
“You’re late.”  Scully said placing the newspapers on Mulder’s desk.  She looked down at her wristwatch and smirked.  “About two hours late.”
“I’m sorry, I was getting last minute details for our flight schedule.  They’re rebuilding the airport to where we’re going so they had to cancel some flights.”
“Mulder, where are we going?”  Scully asked impatiently.
“Get ready to take a trip to the smallest state with the longest name, Scully.”
     “Rhode Island?”  She guessed.
“You got it, Scully.  A young girl was murdered at a Girl Scout Camp in Foster.”
     “Murdered how?”
“The girls body was covered in scratches.”
“So an animal attacked her.”  Scully asked immediately wondering what their interest in the case was.
“No, the claw marks can’t be identified as any animal.  At least not one that would be in the Rhode Island woods.”
“So what do you expect?  Bigfoot?”
Mulder laughed.  “Come on, let’s go.”
                                                                                   *     *     *     *
A few hours later Mulder and Scully landed in Rhode Island.  They quickly gathered their luggage and left the crowded airport.  Mulder pulled out a map and Scully directed him on how to get to the camp.  They drove up the rocky road that led to the camp.  Scully looked around at the trees and no trespassing signs as they drove along.  It reminded of her of the many times that she and her family went camping together.
Mulder parked the car in the dirt parking lot and both he and Scully got out.  They walked up the long path to the meadow where they saw two girls.  They were standing near a spiket filling a large container full of water.  A large stick was going through the handle of the bucket.  One of the girls turned off the pump and they lifted the bucket using the stick.  A girl was on each end of the stick so it may the bucket easier to carry.  As the girls turned around, they noticed Mulder and Scully.  Piper was startled, seeing the people in their trench coats and she dropped her side of the bucket.  Water spilled out but the second girl maintained her grasp so there was still some water left inside.
“Excuse me.”  Scully said.  “Maybe you could help us.”
“Who are you?” The second girl asked placing the bucket carefully on the ground.
Mulder stepped up and showed the girls his badge.  The girls immediately knew why the two agents were there.  For the past few days, the two girls worried about what would happen with the person who had been murdered.  Did anyone care to know what was going on in the dark woods of a Girl Scouts camp?  The police only conducted their business at night, so as not to frighten the rest of the girls.
“Did you know Sandra Mitchell?”  Mulder asked.
“We know she was supposed to be in our unit, but we didn’t know her personally.”  One of the girls said.
“What are your girl’s names?”  Scully asked.
     “I’m Trinity Fyrer.”  Trinity said.
“I’m Piper Alexander.  What are your names?”  Piper wondered not willing to give more information until they gave them some first.
“Special Agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder.”  Scully said.
“Could you possibly show us around?”  Mulder asked.  Though he wasn’t sure if he trusted the girls, he knew that a simple hand drawn map of the camp wouldn’t take them very far.
Trinity thought for a moment, trying to decide whether to help the two agents.  “We can’t answer you until we can talk to our leader, Bubbles.”
Mulder and Scully gave each other a puzzled look.  Though Mulder had heard some weird names before, Bubbles was certainly one of the stranger ones.  Scully thought the same thing in the beginning but then she began to think the name had some special meaning, maybe something having to do with the murders.
Piper noticed the look, and began to explain.  “You see, everyone at camp has a camp name.  The whole point is the kids aren’t supposed to know their real names.  For example, my camp name is Pumpkin because my birthday’s in October.  So, when I go work with younger children, they call me Pumpkin.”
“Mine is Celine because of the most talented singer in the entire world.”  Trinity said.
Piper and Trinity quickly refilled the bucket and began walking with it down the path.  The bucket was obviously heavy so Mulder offered to carry it but the girls insisted that they do it.  The stick made it easier to carry but it was still awkward.
Piper and Trinity walked down the road for twenty yards before stopping outside a unit.  One of the leaders, Lily, noticed the two strangers walking down the rode behind the two girls.  Lily pulled her long, frizzy, blonde hair into a sloppy ponytail and met the strangers at the path to enter the unit.
“Can I help you?”  She asked.
“Yea, I’m Special Agent Mulder, this is Agent Scully, we’re from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”  Mulder answered.
“What’s the FBI doing here?”  Lily wondered.
Scully looked to Mulder and raised her eyebrows.  She found it strange that a leader, of all people, didn’t know what was going on. Scully wondered if the entire loss of information was part of the case.  Was this woman acting strange just to cover the fact that she murdered the person?  Scully looked to Trinity and Piper who were placing the bucket next to a fire pit.  They walked back over and stood next to Scully and Mulder.
“So, can we go?”  Trinity asked impatiently.  Camping was fun but she knew that working with the FBI would be even better.
“What’s going on here?”  Bubbles asked walking to the agents. By this time, some of the other girls in the unit were getting interested in the conversation.  Some girls were at their backpacks, that were hanging on trees, while others were sitting at the picnic tables eating a snack.
“Agents Mulder and Scully this is our head leader, Bubbles.  Bubbles, these are Special Agents Mulder and Scully with the FBI.”  Piper said.
“We were wondering if Piper and Trinity could show us around.”  Scully said.
“Well, we’re going to work on a step of our badge today but if the girls don’t mind missing it, they’re very welcome to join you guys.”  Bubbles said.  Lily looked over to her, realizing that Bubbles knew what was going on.
“I want to go.”  Trinity said.
“Yea, me too.”  Piper added in.
“Well, just be back for lunch.”  Bubbles said.  She walked back to a picnic table and sat down.  She began reading over some papers and signing a few statements.
“So, where do you want to go, first?”  Trinity asked.  “We know the entire camp.”
“We’ll just walk and you can tell us where everything is.”  Scully said.  She wasn’t exactly sure what she was looking for but she knew that it would come to her soon.
Piper and Trinity walked ahead of Mulder and Scully.  There was only one main path that led to basically everything.  Different units branched off from the main path.  Some of them were close by but others were far away.  Piper and Trinity began walking and talking as always.  Scully pulled out the case file from a shoulder bag that was slung over her shoulder.  She began to read one of the papers over when she noticed two distinct names.
“You were the two who found the girl.”  Scully concluded.
“Yes, it’s back towards the meadow.  Do you want us to take you there?”  Piper said.
Scully nodded and the girls turned around.  They walked past their unit again and waved to a few of the girls.  Mulder and Scully followed, lagging a few feet behind.  They didn’t say a word but instead tried to take in their surroundings.
The two girls soon stopped walking and Piper pointed to a spot of the walk that had been taped with police line.  Scully and Mulder walked underneath it.  The leaves had been cleared out and a few branches from trees had been cut down.  The police had practically demolished the spot so they could get the evidence they needed.
