metal objects. She can also absorb this energy back into her own body without harm to herself.

History: Jubilee was born and raised in Beverly Hills by her parents. Her father was a prosperous Chinese immigrant who had fallen in love and married an American woman. She attended an exclusive Beverly Hills school where she became an extremely talented gymnast. One weekend her parents lost their money in the stock market. That same weekend two hit men mistook Dr. and Mrs. Lee for their neighbors, also named the Lees, and killed them.

Orphaned and impoverished, with nowhere to live, Jubilee was sent to the Los Angeles County Juvenile Hall. There she learned how to defend herself and became rebellious towards authority. The Juvenile Hall authorities arranged to send her to another orphanage. Fearing that she might eventually be sent to live with her only living relatives (her grandparents), who were in Communist China, Jubilee ran away to the Hollywood Mall. She survived as a petty thief, stealing whatever she needed but her luck finally ran out one day when two undercover cops trapped her in a dead end. In her fear and panic she unwittingly activated her mutant powers for the first time. Globules of energy shot from her hands, exploding in front of the police, enabling her to make her escape.

While life as a runaway wasn't easy, she was able to get by with her new talent. This meant that she didn't have to steal as much as before. One evening everything changed. As she returned to the hidden area where she slept, she saw someone shot to death. The shooters saw her when she let out a yelp in surprise and gave chase. In her panic to get away, Jubilee's powers activated and went haywire, blowing up the alley, her attackers, and half the surrounding alley wall.

Professor Xavier detected the disruption and sent someone to find her. Guiding them by way of Cerebro the contact found Jubes and offered her a safe place to stay as well as to continue school. She would be staying with people like her, mutants that also found sanctuary there. She accepted the offer and within a few days, Jubilee found herself on a bus heading east to Westchester. At Xaviers school, Jubilee flourished and made many friends. She had found a new home where she now felt safe.

At the end of her senior school year, a message came from the Chinese government. Her grandfather, who was at one time, a high military official was ill. He greatly regretted his estrangement with his son, who abhorred the communist regime and had fled years ago. When he tried to contact his son to amend past differences, he was told that his son had been killed several years earlier along with his wife. A daughter had survived, only because she was sleeping over with friends. Upon learning that there was a child, he then had his contacts hire private investigators to locate her.

A request for Jubilee to be allowed to visit with her paternal grandparents came from the Chinese government soon there after. Xavier, knowing that this might be the only chance for her to ever meet her grandparents, informed her of the new and that she would always be welcomed back. She reluctantly agreed to the trip and left with a heavy heart, returning to the school soon after her grandparents' passing.
