| looked up to his older brother John and held him in high esteem. He was particularly thrilled when John left the reservation to join the fabled X-Men under the codename Thunderbird. However, John died shortly after arriving at the Xavier Institute putting a tragic end to his extremely short superhero career. James blamed Professor Xavier for his brother's death and this became a source of great resentment and bitterness for the young man. So much so that he sought vengeance and accepted Emma Frost's (White Queen) invitation to her Massachusetts Academy to become one of the first of her new Hellions -- Emma's own twisted version of the X-Men. But before James could get there, the academy was destroyed by members of the Hellfire Club while Emma was in a coma after battling the Phoenix Force. He then found himself wandering the streets of New York and had a chance encounter with a mutant terrorist known as Wildside. James soon found himself being introduced to Wildeside's boss Roberto Da Costa and he quickly allied himself with the Mutant Liberation Front -- sharing a belief in their goals and hoping for a chance to extract revenge on Xavier for his brother's death. |
