Muahaha, how else do you think they'd possibly end up together? Hahaha. The Characters belong to squaresoft (except the guy that Reno gets in a fight with, or almost does, and Yunae). this might not be a very good first impression, but yesh, Reno _is_ that annoying, and yuffie is usually more immature. Mmhmm...

If you wanna meet the Characters, or get a brief idea of what they look like, Click on the name for some pictures I've drew of them in Sketches.

Yuffie flailed her arms ouward as she toppled down the remaining stairs of her father, Godo's, palace, grabbing out for the banister before landing flat on her face on the hardwood floor. If she had had a problem with the number of palaces Godo owned, it was nothing compared to her problem with stairs.

Growling and rubbing her knees, she stood up. She had been in a rush. It was 9:00 on Friday night and the Chocobo Racing Finals were on TV.

The ninja limped to the plush, velvety sofa and sank down in the cushions. Just as the announcer was calling out the names of the jockeys and their chocobos, a figure emerged in the doorway.

"Hello, Yuffie." Godo strolled over to the couch, his gold and red silk robe following his every movement. The King of Wutai, as he was, usually dressed in his royal robes.

"Ack! Can you shut up?! I just missed details on number four!.... Gawd!" Pulling her knees in, she shot an glare at her unwelcome visitor.

Godo chuckled softly, almost mockingly, and reached out to take one of Yuffie's many cushions, but she quickly whipped her hand out and pulled the pillows closer to herself.

"Is this how you're going to spend your Friday nights? Curled up on your father's sofa, watching the race?" Godo gestured vaguely at the TV. "Maybe if you had some friends, or -" he hinted cautiously, " - a mate ..."

The look Yuffie gave him would have been enough to make Sephiroth run home to his mommy. "You're one to talk," she mumbled. "Old man can't even stay with a woman for more than a week." She sighed and rolled her eyes.

Godo, in turn, sighed and drummed his fingers on the arm of the sofa, staring blankly at Chocobo number six, obviously deep in thought.

At last, as the race was beginning, Godo spoke aloud. "Allright, if I can't talk with you civilly, I'll make you a bet."

Yuffie said nothing, but blinked at the racing chocobos, giving no sign of having heard him. Godo continued as if not to notice. "If Chocobo number six wins, you're going on a date."

A date... well, thats not so bad. She could always go with that guy that worked at the ice cream parlour, he was okay. Maybe he'd give her free ice cream if she was nice enough to him. "And what if you loose?" She sideglanced at number six. It was in fifth place.

Godo plunged his hand into his robes and pulled out a leather wallet. He flipped through, counting to himself, and then put it back in his pocket.

"If number six looses, I'll give you 6000 gil. Fair?" Godo smirked as yuffie's eyes widened. She could almost feel the materia that could buy.

"Deal!" Yuffie shirted on the sofa and watched the chocobos with added incentive.

"Deal," repeated Godo. "And by the way - it'll be a blind date."

Yuffie's eyes widened, but she looked back at the screen and watched the chocobos to hide her surprise and displeasure.

"Doesn't matter, your gil is as good as mine!" She said, almost trying to convince herself that Godo had no chance of winning. "Number four can kick number six outta Wutai if he wants to! Hell, he could kick his _own_ ass outta Wutai!!"

Godo said nothing but watched the screen. A black chocobo, number four, was currently pulling first, and number six was in third. As the chocobos ran around the bend, the white number six overtook number three and pulled into second place.

"Come onnnn, Teioh!" Yuffie cheered for the black chocobo, hands balled in excitement. She could already see the red glow of Ramuh, and the bright blue All materia shining in her mind. The black chocobo picked up speed as it raced through the woods and across the bridge; number six was left in the dust.

"Start paying, old man," she said confidently as number four spiralled around the bend. Number six was too far away, even though the chocobo was picking up speed, it wouldn't be enough...

Godo watched and grinned. Suddenly, number four's head drooped and the chocobo came to a halt, bucking its rider forward three feet in the air at the sudden stop. The chocobo gave a weak "Wark!" and then fell over in exaustion. Number six tore past the carcass, ran directly over the crumpled rider and ripped past the finish line. Yuffie stared at the screen in disbelief as the glowing orbs of materia faded out of her mind. Mouth open, she turned to her father.

"Looks like number four's gonna be kicking his own ass outta Wutai," Godo tauned, patting his wallet as he stood up and walked out of the room. He stood next to the doorway in the hall, taking out his PHS and dialing the number of an old business "friend," smirking as a red velvet pillow soared out the doorway and hit the wall behind him with a "thump."

~*~*~*~*~

Yunae bent over and laced up the back of Yuffie's white dress as the ninja watched herself in the mirror. As the servant tied a double bow in the top of the ribbing (for Yuffie's sake), she heard Yuffie grumble something about 'pacing.' Yunaw smiled and stood up, peeking over Yuffie's shoulder to steal a glance at the ninja, who was trying not to slouch as much as usual, unless she _wanted_ her dress to go down that much.

"You look beautiful, Miss Yuffie," Yunae remarked. Yuffie tugged uncomfortably at the tight dress and wished it would have covered more of her legs. She had to admit, she didn't look half bad, but who knew what her date was going to look like. She would have been more happy in her shorts and tanktop. She fiddled with the pearl bracelet around her wrist as Yunaw handed her a crystal tiara. Yuffie wrinkled her nose in disgust, but placed the accessory on her head. "Remind me, " she said, fixing her hair around the bands of the tiara, "why did I let Godo pick my outfit?"

Yunae slipped a diamond necklace around Yuffie's neck, evoking a small sigh of defeat from her as Yunae fastened the clasp. "Because he promised to buy you an All materia."

Yuffie smoothened the dress as Yunae finished with the necklace. "Done," the servant announced proudly.

"Thanks," Yuffie said evenly, to be polite, as she took her handbag and walked stiffly out the door. Yunaw couldn't help but grin as she heard the clacking of Yuffie's high heeled shoes and her mistress's curse as Yuffie tripped down the stairs.

~*~*~*~

Yuffie's ivory handbag tumbled out of her lap as the sleek black limousine rolled over a bump. Snatching up the handbag and pushing the throwing stars back in (not exactly your typical vanity bag), she rolled her eyes.

"Watch where you're going, Shake!" She snapped as she squirmed back into her seat, struggling to pull her dress down past her knees.

"Sorry," came the voice from the driver's seat. "Just trying to get here in time. Ah! We're here now."

"Here...? Shake, this is a _bar!_" Yuffie peeked out the window at the neon letters that spelled 'Leo's Mane Attractions,' glowing in the darkness of the oncoming night.

"This is the spot," Shake continued. "This is the exact address."

Yuffie crossed her arms. "No way am I going in there! I don't care if I lost a bet, that old man can't make me -"

"Uhh, Yuffie?" The chauffer interupted. "Godo said that he'd take away your Kinghts of the Round mater -"

Yuffie's eyes widened, and she sighed, thursting the door open so violently that it nearly struuck the streetlamp, cutting off Shake's threat.

"The things I do for my materia," She grumbled as she kicked the door shut with a white high heeled shoe.

~*~*~*~*~*~

The bar was filled with people. Walking into the array of casually dressed people. she felt more than out of place and tugged her tiara nervously. The atmosphere was a shade of blue, the air mingling with cigarette smoke and the pungent smell of alcohol. A few people were swaying almost as if disabled to a song playing out on the dance floor. Yuffie wandered to the corner of the bar in hopes of being unnoticed. Maybe, she thought, if I just sit here alone all night, Godo'll think that i actually went on a date.

Yuffie surveyed the crowd for someone, anyone who could possibly be her date. She looked up expectantly as someone approached her table. Her hopes of him being her date faded instantly as he said, "What will you have to drink?"

She ordered a glass of water, which the man promptly served her with. Swishing the glass between her fingers, she studied her drink coaster. Just as she was coinsidering labelling her date a no-show, she was jarred by a familiar voice that broke her silent thinking.

"Hey pest."

Yuffie closed her eyes, trying to block out the sudden, surreal illusion that he was here. It wasn't possible. But when she opened her eyes, she found herself confronted by none other than the red headed Turk himself. He grinned as she frowned up at him.

She stood up quickly, and backed away. he was wearing his usual blue suit, his flaming red hair pulled back in his typical ponytail. He looked relatively sober, a state that was as rare on him as the dress on Yuffie.

"Reno, what the hell are _you_ doing here?!" Yuffie demanded, grasping the clasp of her handbag filled with throwing stars, still not believing that he was going to be around to watch her suffer on her blind date.

"But more importantly, what are _you_ doing here? Never seen a ninja in a dress before." He chuckled and put a hand on his hip.

"Yeah, well don't get used to it," she said defensively. "I'm only here because i lost a bet, so stupid Godo set me up on a blind date with some old business partner of his... but I can't figure out where the asshole _is_..."

Reno just grinned, and turned his head suggestively. Yuffie's jaw dropped.

"You have _GOT_ to be kidding me!"

Reno grinned even more broadly, enjoying Yuffie's torture. "Aww, whassamatter? Is the little ninja scared?" he said mockingly.

"You... you!" Yuffie trembled with rage. She spun around and headed for the exit, pushing her way through the crowd. "I swear, the second i lay my eyes on that sorry old bastard Godo..." She muttered.

Reno watched as she strode out of sight, wobbling on the high heels. "This is going to be one HELL of a night!"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Hey, you! Get your ass outta the way!" Yuffie buried her fist into the back of a large man standing between her and the exit. He stumbled forward and turned around.

Yuffie's anger melted into fear with the glare that the man shot at her. "Who the fuck do you think you're talking to, stupid bitch!" He raised his fist at her, and Yuffie prepared to attack, when she found herself staring at... blue? A blue jacket. That must be...

"That's a foul mouth you've got there, McGraw." Reno said smugly, crossig his arms as Yuffie stepped around the Turk. "Don't suppose you'd know her dad, huh?" Reno sideglanced at yuffie. "Hmm, think Lord Godo would rather behead you, or let me have the honors?"

The man's face turned red with frustration (not to mention embarassment) and his bristly mustache twitched angrilly as he struggled for words. Finally, he threw his drink onto the floor, the glass scattering and shattering loudly. Yuffie jumped back in surprise and watched as the large man opened the door and slammed it forcefully behind him, the cool night air seeping into the bar momentarily.

Reno, satisfied at his success, walked up to the counter and sat down. He waited impatiently for the bartender to finish flirting with a blonde woman on the other side of the bar. Suddenly, he felt a tap on his shoulder and saw Yuffie moving to sit in the chair next to him, setting her handbag on the bar with a heavy 'chink' as the throwing stars contacted with the counter.Reno raised an eyebrow.

"What do you keep in there, sterilized silverwear?" He questioned mockingly.

Yuffie, brushing off the remark, said simply, "If you think I'm going to thank you for getting rid of that guy, you're wrong."

Reno pretended not to hear her. The bar tender stopped infront of Reno and asked him, "What'll ya have?"

Reno drummed his fingers on the counter and said, without looking up, "Something hard."

"Ooh, hard, Turkey? Trying to make up for something?" Yuffie giggled at her own joke and watched the corners of Reno's mouth twitch. "I could have handled that guy, you know," She said.

"Sure, you could," He said sarcastically, patting the top of Yuffie's head (being wary of the tiara on it). Yuffie swatted his hand away. "She'll have an ice water," he added to the bartender. Turning to yuffie, he said, "Wouldn't want anything else to crack her cool exterior."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Yuffie rolled her eyes and looked down at her dress and the crumpled cigarette butts on the floor. "You couldn't have found a better way to humiliate me than to bring me here, huh?"

"Hey, at _least_ I showed up," he said as he took the glass that the bartender handed to him. "I'm not paid to sit alone here, you know."

Paid? Yuffie had to admit, although it wasn't surprising, it was a little hurtful. "I'm not paid to dress normally, either, which explains why I lok like Aeris." Yuffie took her water and sipped it cautiously.

Reno took a few gulps of his drink, tilting the glass back and then setting it back on the counter. "Aeris... wasn't the the one that Sephy shoved his sword..." He stopped at the venomous glare Yuffie gave him. Suddenly realizing his mistake, he stopped and went back to his drink.

Yuffie, in turn, looked around at the people in the bar. At a small table in the back, Yuffie noticed a man wearing a big, black hat with a yellow stripe around it.

"Hey," she said, startling Reno. "I think I know that guy." She nodded at the man with the black hat. Reno looked over at him.

"And let me guess... he had more materia _before_ you knew him?"

Yuffie ignored him and walked across the bar. Reno did not follow, but watched her between gulps of his drink with interest as she confronted the man.

Yuffie approached the table, becoming more and more positive that it was, indeed, who she thought it was. She tapped the man on the shoulder. he looked up in surprise.

"Yes?" He said expectantly, gawking slightly at her outfit.

"Hey, aren't you Joe? With Teioh, Chocobo number four in last night's race?" Yuffie said sweetly, forcing a fake smile.

"Why, yes, I am," said the man confidently with a southern drawl. "Would you like an autogra-" The man was stopped dead as yuffie punched him across the right side of his face with all of her strength. The man fell off his chair and sprawled across the floor. Just as he opened his mouth to tell her off, she yelled at him.

"Damnit, try to -win- a race next time!" She turned away and stomped back to the bar, tripping slightly, leaving the man stunned on the fround, his friends looking up at Yuffie in surprise.

"Whoa, you been _told,_" Said one of the men behind Yuffie to the Chocobo Jockey.

Reno gulped nervously as Yuffie sat down on her stool. "Bastard," she muttered, picking up her drink and taking a large gulp. Suddenly she lowerede her glass, made a face and swallowed painfully. "What the _HELL_ happened to my drink?!"

"Uh, yeah," Reno scratched his neck nervously, trying to look casual. "I thought it could use some, uh, vodka."

"Vodka? Reno, is there any _water_ left in here?" She said, the burning taste of alcohol stinging her mouth. She had to admit, it wasn't as horrible as she had expected alcohol to be.

"Probably," He said, taking her glass and downing it all at once. Yuffie watched, almost in awe. He lowered the glass. "Hope you didn't want that."

"No, it's okay, I - " yuffie began, but a voice behind her cut her off.

"Miss...? I'm sorry, but I have to ask you to leave." Yuffie turned to face the bouncer, looking down at her. "We can't have you killing our customers."

"Kill...? I didn't _kill_ him!" She spluttered, almost slurring the syllables together. The alcohol was already getting to her.

"Yeah, whatever. Still, you aren't welcome here." He grabbed her arm and helped, if not pulled, her up. "Go."

Yuffie glared at the man and jerked her arm out of his grip. "Come on Reno... let's go," she said, without taking her eyes off the bouncer.

"Go...? Yuff, I hardly even..."

"Reno, let's GO!" She said through gritted teeth. Reno looked at the bouncer and sighed. He pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket, scribbled a few words on it and tucked it away again. Yuffie made a face at him, but said nothing. reno smiled at the bouncer.

"Just adding another name to the list of places I've gotten kicked out of this week," he said as he and Yuffie left the bar.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Yuffie strolled out to the street corner and sat down on the curb. The occasional car drove by, and a few people were walking in the streets of Wutai. The full moon had just risen above the horizon, like a gem in the black cape of stars. They all looked more than a bit blurry to Yuffie. The vodka had taken its toll.

Reno sat down on the curb next to the ninja. "Way to go, pest."

"Thanks," Yuffie said slugishly, taking the sarcastic remark as a serious compliment. "I work out." She smiled and laid down in the grass, kicking her shoes off onto the sidewalk. Reno couldn't help but stare at her legs.

"Hey... Reno!" She said.

"-huh? Wha?" He said, shaking his head.

"I'm up here." She pointed to her face and laughed. Reno realized that she'd seen him staring. "I said, 'What brings you to Wutai?' "

"I dunno," Reno said, "Theres not really much left in Midgar. Meteor did a hell of a job there."

Yuffie nodded in agreement, sitting up. "So, what do we do now? We can't go back in there." She pointed past the two of them to the bar.

"Whatever you want," He said. "We still have two hours to burn." he pulled out a cigarette and perched it between his lips, lighting it with a flick of his thumb on his lighter.

"Hey!" She said, swaying slightly on the spot. "Let's go ride on a plane!"

Reno inhaled on his cigarette and blew a circle of smoke towards the street. "I thought you had air sickness," he said, lokoing at her again. he couldn't help but laugh - drunk Yuffie in a dress. A rare sight. "Besides, there aren't any planes around here."

"Yes there are!" Yuffie coutered, picking up her shoes off the sidewalk. "There one over there!" She pointed up into the sky.

"...Where?" Reno could only see the stars and the moon and the inky blackness all around.

"Over... THERE!" Yuffie grabbed a shoe and hurled it high into the air. It spun wildly, like a bird falling out of the sky, crossed paths with the bright orb that hung in the sky, and fell down in the street infront of a pair of women taking a night's stroll.

"Yuffie," He said with a laugh. "That's the moon."

"Oh," She said. She was like a child... With a good aim. ~And a nice pair of legs, too...~ Reno shook his head. Whoa, where did that come from?

"Then... whassat?" She said, pointing to a figure across the street.

"That's an old woman," Reno said. The woman looked at the pair and hurried up.

"Hooligans," she murmured.

Reno sighed. "Come on, Yuffie. Let's go take a walk."

Yuffie stoof up, leaving her shoe on the grass.

"Guess we're going barefoot, huh?" he poked Yuffie in the side and she yelped loudly, jumping away from Reno. "How's the weather down there, shortie?"

"Cleaner than your clouds 'a smoke," She slurred, as the two walked into the market.

~*~*~*~*~*~

"Ohh, Reno! Wait a minute!"

As dark as it was, the Market was still up. A few merchants were still selling their wares out at the northern end of Wutai. it had been a half hour walk from Leo's Mane Attractions to the Market... but it had been interesting.

Reno was starting to think that he had fallen for everyon'e favorite materia theif. He could have any woman he wanted, any night, but there was something about that childish aspect of Yuffie that he liked.

"Reno, isn't this pretty? Oooh, buy it for me, Reno! Pleeease?" Yuffi held up a necklace with a crystal chocobo charm on it. Reno gently took it from her.

"The tag says it's 100 gil, Yuf," he said. "I can't afford that. I still have to pay my tab at Leo's."

Yuffie looked at him pleadingly with her honey brown eyes. Suddenly, a mischievous flicker crossed her lips. "Okay," she said. "I can manage." She balledf up the necklace in her hand and put her hand to her chest. She opened her palm, pretending to be examining a ruby pair of earings, and let the necklace slide...

... down her dress?!

Reno raised an eyebrow and pulled her aside. "What are you _DOING_?!"

Yuffie looked innocently at him. "What are you talking about?"

Reno sighed and dragged Yuffie away from the jewelery table as quickly as possible, but the jeweler saw them.

"Get them!" The woman yelled. "Theif! Get back here!"

Reno looked behind to see the woman running after them. "Run, yuffie!" He yelled. but she was already far ahead.

"Hey.... Wait up!"

~*~*~*~*~

"Come on. We're almost there."

Yuffie stuck her hand out for Reno to pull himself up t he rocky slope of Da Chao. Yuffie and Reno had raced through town, and now up Da Chao. The large mountains were their only refuge for the moment.

Reno pulled himself up after the ninja, ignoring her hand held out in the air for him. She was very nimble, and climbed the slope as if she had done so every day of her life. Even bare footed, Yuffie's agility was too fast for Ren on the mountain.

After a few more silent minutes, Yuffie disappeared above a large rock. Reno heard her announce, "A hah! We're here!" as Reno pulled himself up the rest of the slope.

Yuffie was sitting on the top of the montain, gazing up at the stars. As Reno sat down next to her, she edged closer to him.

"Cold?" he asked, looking at her bare arms.

"A... a little," She said, shivering. She jumped slightly as she felt Reno's arm around her shoulders.

"Hope your shoes werent too valulable," Commented Reno. "Think you almost hit someone with one of them."

Yuffie laughd softly. "Yeah, but did you see the look on their faces? haha!"

Reno smiled. Her slender shoulders were cold against his arm, but she had stopped shivering. He was having a, well, an interesting date wtih Yuffie. "Sure." Reno took the small necklace and reached his hands around her neck, fastening the clasp. Her skin was so soft... he brushed his hand across her cheek and looked into her eyes. She looked more beautiful than ever...

Yuffie, anticipating what would come bext, leaned forward slightly and was rewarded with the soft feel of Reno's lips on hers. Slowly, he deepened the kiss. He was surprised that Yuffie returned his kisses instead of pulling away and screaming. She slipped her arms around his waist. Suddenly Yuffie giggled, smiling as they continued their intimate moment. Slowly, she pulled away. She smiled, standing up and patting Reno on the shoulder. "Bye, Reno. See you soon." She walked down the slope and out of view.

Reno slouched back on the cold rock,. staring up at the beautiful face of the moon.. He sighed and smiled. Why had Yuffie run off so suddenly like that? Ohh well. Things were good. Looks like Yuffie had a thing for him, and he'd be getting a big fat paycheck from Godo for going on the date.

Reno stood up and grinned. He put his hands in his pockets.

Suddenly his face went pale. Where was his gil? And his materia?

.....

"YUFFIEEEEE!!!!"
