Rainmaker888/Hussie/X-Prong
(Hope & Anchor, 26th February 2002)
"Asphyxiate were unable to attend tonite, due to transportation problems, so X-Prong kicked things off with a truly brutal thrash-a-thon of a set. This five piece with twin vocals use powerhouse drumming, intense guitar and deep, dark and downright strange bass to create their own heavy metal magic. Occasionally the often rythmical nature of their music allows for a more rap like vocal exchange, but mostly this is 100% intense and deadly. Coming to a mosh-pit near you? Next up Hussie. This tite three piece lie somewhere between grunge and metal - there is a strong influence from Helmet here. Capable of being very intense and heavy, with punchy bass driving them along, they are not afraid to use melody on the vocals to complement the grinding nature of the riffs. Deep, atmospheric moments are often followed by full on choruses, and there are some nice tite moments too. Great. The excellent Rainmaker 888 bring their tite and professional touch to the Hope` once again. A metal band in the truest sense of the word - this four piece combine classic metal riffs with contemporary elements. The songs are well worked out and delivered with commitment - and blistering solos are never too far away. A couple of covers thrown in tonite show the bands classic roots. Doing well in Europe it can only be a question of time `till they take the UK by storm!"

“…X-prong we up next…. No one seemed to know anything about X-prong before the gig, I think it was their debut. The crowd gave a good response to this band and I think it was well deserved. They were loud, strong and most importantly.. heavy. Christ they were heavy. From the (very) down tuned guitar to the consistent and stamina defying growly vocals. If this WAS there first gig, I can't wait to hear what they sound like with experience behind them…”
(FaceLift played at this gig…. Hear what they said about ‘em)
“…Then we had Face Lift.... If there was a weak point to the evening, this was it. Although musically, they were tight(ish), they never seemed likely to win the audience over. Perhaps these guys should have opened the evening. The songs were boring and unoriginal, which for me was emphasised by the drummer's complete lack of ability to produce more than two beats. Entertaining, but for the wrong reasons...”
