Modification Guides:
Odd Fact: The cylinder bores in the XR2 engine are the same size as those in the 950cc Popular engine...All mk1 fiestas are the same !

NOTES:
Not all of these have photographs or diagrams. Most of them are really easy to do and will not affect your cars performance.
Before doing anything to modify your car mechanically please read the correct Workshop Manual (Haynes/Halfords) and make sure that you follow correct safety guidelines.
If you are not sure about the safety or legality of your mods please check them out first with your local MoT station or garage who will happily advise you.

INSURANCE:
Remember legally all modifications must be presented to your insurance company. As a general rule they can stiff you on major bodywork mods because of desirability to thieves.
Engine mods are a real bastard but simple things like filters and exhausts shouldn't make much difference at all.
Fit an immobiliser. These are better than alarms as far as insurance companies see it (don't ask why). Even better save up and pay someone* to fit a Thatcham immobiliser.
*if an un-professional person (ie. a mate) fits a Thatcham approved device the Thatcham certification becomes invalid

GUIDES:

Removing side farings/strips from a 1.4s (also applies to Ghia and certain L ranges)
Removing Sticky stuff (stripes/badges etc)
Fitting a functional 'Subaru' bonnet vent (applies to all non-fake bonnet vents)
Fitting a remote Tailgate Release mechanism.
FITTING SPORTS SUSPENSION !! - Caution. This is a full photo page (approx 130kb of images)
Re-furbishing alloy wheels
Fitting an Oil Cooler
Fitting Rear Head Rests - bodge job way
Fitting Red Seatbelts - Courtesy of ODM (one dead metro)

The number of ways you can modify a Fiesta are only limited by your imagination. You can (and people do) do anything to a simple Ford Fiesta. The car is such a great platform for modification. Thanks to the penny-pinching nature of Ford you can combine any Ford Escort/Fiesta and bits of others together effortlessly.(e.g. Fiestas made after about 1982 shared the same brakes and hub asembly as the escort)
How about a Fiesta with an Escort Turbo engine, Capri leather seats and Onion alloys? - and thats only a simple idea of what can be made from Fords 'Lego'.
But DON'T RIP OTHERS OFF, there's nothing worse than doing something really creative and original to your car only to have your mates looking identical a week later ! (trust me on this)

OTHER GUIDES:
These are all courtesy of Matt at fiestamods, I have not hyperlinked these individually because it'd be a bitch to keep up to date. Just go to his site at the above address. Other wicked Fiesta stuff lives here too.
Use your browsers BACK button to return to XR2.org.uk.

Make a quickshift by modifying the existing gearchange mechanism (seems easy)
Fitting REAR disk brakes (if you've got an engineering degree)
Painting your Gearknob. This process also applies to all other interior plastic painting apart from upholstery
Fitting rear headrests - properly!
Removing sticky stripes
Fitting a sunstrip
ICE:
Making Speaker Builds
He'll also tell you how he made his awesome ICE setup - if you beg him.

Another site I can gladly recommend for fine Mod's is www.XR2.8m.com.
