I am amazed by how the Lord knows how to encourage each of us at just the right time through the most unexpected sources. You are a great encouragement to me as I watch you step out in faith for this next year. There isn't anything so powerful as works coupled with faith.
I suppose that is what wearing a headcovering is too. I appreciate your struggle with this - after 7 years, I still struggle with it...and now I believe it is more important than ever as the women's issues are becoming more and more prominent in the church today (as witnessed by what is going on in the Southern Baptist Church). My wearing a hat is not just about women's role in the church, but it is about the interpretation and inspiration of Scripture. In light of this, the discomfort and alienation I may feel is worth it, and I brace myself for the abuse that comes and will surely come as this discussion heats up.
Already my boss (the head of school) says that he is intrigued that such a smart person could be so literal and wants to discuss this at length with me. I have to admit that I dread this discussion...I suppose it is my need to be liked and respected. I am already marginalized as the evangelical amongst the more liberal Lutherans and I know they think that my Christianity is terribly simplistic and naive. I would appreciate prayer to have the right spirit, wisdom and grace to know how to speak to them on this. All this because of my wearing a hat - amazing isn't it?
I will keep praying for your friend and for you and your family. Please keep me posted on how you are doing and what I can pray for. May He bless you richly as you take these big steps of faith.
Love in Him, Miltinnie |
