| "Jarod...I'm sorry. I am going to be here for you. I will see you through this... I need to go, but I will be back in a while. I'm going to get you something to help us pass the time. I'll be back" She gently kissed him on the cheek, and walked out. It hurts...No more pain...It hurts... Please stop it hurts! Please please please... hurts... no more... ...What is that? It's beautiful. Like singing... It's gone... Where is it?! Find it... No... Pain... Gone... Gone forever... Pain... An hour later she was back, with a thermos of coffee, and a book. On the cover in long bold letters it spoke out, 'Atlas Shrugged'. Morrigan spoke to him, as if nothing was wrong. She looked past the bandages, the bruises, and the tubes. She tried to find the man who was once awake, and at one time, happy and full of life. She sighed. "We're gonna see this through, okay? I will do everything in my power to help you!" Her eyes blurred with tears, and she sat down next to him, "And I'm going to make sure that bitch never bothers you again! I need you, Jarod, so don't go anywhere! Hear me?" She opened the book to a pre-determined page and started to read. "Who is John Galt? The light was ebbing and Eddie Willers could not distinguish the bums face..." She read to him. And when her voice gave out, she played CDs of music she thought I'd like. (That's when she slept). The doctor had asked her to go home and rest. She did not. He later tried to be more commanding, to no avail. She stood up, placed her finger to her mouth in a silent shhhhhhhh, walked up to him and slowly placed the same finger to his lips. Ever so slowly, she drew close to him, put her hand on his cheek with the thumb resting on his chin. He tilted his head inward to hear what she was whispering. The doctor could barely hear her. Morrigan backed up and sat down, always smiling, with eye contact. He smiled and walked out the door. Five minutes later, He was back with a pillow and a blanket- 'In case she wanted to rest a while'. "Thank you." Still smiling. The doctor gave strict orders to the staff and night shift. She is not to be bothered or influenced to leave. Jarod needs her. So any work you need to do- go right ahead. She will stay out of the way... He blinked twice, turned slowly and went back to work. Influence. The stunt she pulled there was an extreme example of it. Her father noticed she had it as well. He later learned how to block it. 'Something you got from your mother', He would say. 'She had that effect on me too...', the room always dropped off into a quiet atmosphere after her father would say that. When she was young, taking her to a store was an adventure. Little Morrigan would ask kindly for something. But when dad said no, something strange would happen. As they walked out into the parking lot, someone in the store would run out to meet them and say: "I'm sorry to bug you but, I just thought your little girl might like this..." Lo and behold, the little something she asked for. "Thank you!" She'd squeek. Still had that same smile. She was twelve when her father died. Fourteen, when she met this blonde hair boy of the same age. Michael. Some of the things he would do would shock her. Then she would break out laughing, amazed at his antics. She would always give him the attention he wanted. The kids at school thought he was strange. Morrigan found him delightful. Different than the other cute guys at school. She first did not know what it was. "Wanna come over and see my drawings and other stuff, I'm doing?" "Wanna kiss me?" She said. "Yes! That too!" He put his arms behind his back as a nervous gesture that translated into 'I don't know what she is going to say'. Morrigan leaned forward and kissed him, on the lips. More than a peck, but not more than three seconds. She started to walk, as he grew a big goofy smile and rolled his eyes upward. He followed her to his house, just drifting, hanging on every word she spoke. When he opened the door to his room, and invited her in, she stopped, hands immediately covered her drop-jaw expression. Could he draw. Stacks and stacks of sketches. From those stupid 'Can you draw me?' cartoons to characters from some Dungeons and Dragons rulebook. She could almost feel the evolution of his work. "Know when I started?" "When?" "When I first met you. Or, it was the day after. I know what I wanna be when I get older." He said proudly, "I want to draw comic book stuff. I have this cool idea of a guy and his fiancée who are killed by some killers and then he comes back to life to avenge their brutal death. And he is like a superhero cause while he's looking for his killers, he helps other people that are in trouble." "He the Daredevil?" "No!! He-" "Does he fly like Superman?" "No, but he-" "Then what are his powers? Wanna kiss me again?" "Yes." That goofy smile came back. <---Previous Next---> |
