BEFORE AFTER
Yanet Tabares was born in Havana, Cuba, 1974. She exiled to the United States in May of 1980 with her parents at the age of six. Her father was a former political prisoner of nine years who was arrested shortly after the the Cuban revolution. The family later settled into the gang infested suburbs of Los Angeles, California where they continued to dodge bullets thereafter.

At the age of 8, Yanet Tabares was filling out pink slips for her father who would buy broken down cars to repair and resell. Both parents work endlessly in a factory and every penny was stretched to the fullest. Unable to enjoy any toys, Tabares used her imagination.

In 1992, Tabares graduated high school and a few years later went on to attend the American College of Art in London where she was expelled from her photography class for solarizing in the group lab and subconsciously dipping the tongs in the wrong tray. In 1997, she entered the San Francisco Art Institute where she majored in sculpture and experimented with new genres. Out of her studies in new genres came a different form of art, combining different elements and mediums from one simple concept: Art creating ART.

Yanet Tabares currently resides in Miami, Florida where she continues to be a well-respected member of the modern art community. Her work has been exhibited through out various galleries from Los Angeles to London.
