Egypt--Christmas break 2002
We started off our break with a Nile Cruise...we flew from Cairo to Aswan for the first day.  This picture is taken at the Aswan High Dam...our very first excursion there.
This is a picture of Philae Temple, near Aswan.  It was built on an island so we had to take a small motor boat to get to it.  A lot of the temples we saw were covered in sand for a long time...this one has "grafitti" from European travelers halfway up the wall...when they found it, it was partially covered so that where they were standing is a couple meters above the floor area!  Pretty cool to see some explorer's name followed by "1815", or whatnot, as well.
We took a felucca (sailboat) to an island that a British botanist turned into a really luscious garden...full of plant species from around the world.  This is Josh and his mom, with several feluccas behind them.
Josh and I at the garden island near Aswan, looking out over the Nile and sand.  I'm smiling because a merchant offered Josh several camels for me.  (...he almost took them up on it...)
Let's go to page 2!
