Making ballast

Lead stocks are available either in pellets or bars. Lead bars are cheaper but need be sawed into smaller pieces before melting.

Preheating molds. Shown here are two sets of molds for the Sting's ballast Molds are made of brass which is durable and easy to be machined. The purpose of preheating the mold is to prevent molten lead from solidifying too quickly after going into the mold so that it has time to flow freely to take up the shape of the mold.
