Once again, sunrise was about 5:30 am, and Nancy was UP! We hung out until 7 am, and down to breakfast we went. Most of the group was already there. The breakfast buffet was pretty much the same, and the fruit was Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm. Again, down the hill to the beach to catch the dive boat at 8:30 am. It was raining, and according to Earl, the dive shop owner, rain is good because it clears up all the plankton. Visibility in the waters in Costa Rica is nothing compared to the caribbean, but there is still cool stuff to see.
I was actually a little concerned about diving this day, because I get cold so easily. I was afraid I would never get warm in between dives, and I was right. :\ Our first dive was around a big rock, with the usual stuff, and again my divemaster was the cutie Sylvia. We were all still amazed at just how many puffer fish there are! We all surfaced, brought the tanks back to get them out of the way and made our way out to the second dive site, another smaller rock where we were assured we could not get lost. James offered to be my dive buddy and down we went. We saw lots of morays and puffers, and also a couple of octopi, a star of david (very cool) and a huge wall of fish. Of course, James and I had to swim with them "just because". Sure enough, towards the end of the dive I was so cold I started shivering and had to stay up at 10-15 feet because it was tolerably cool there. Eventually, though, even that was too cold for me (I wasn't seeing anything because I was so focused on NOT being cold) and I was about ready to tell James when he motioned the same, so up we went. We were the last ones out, and I finally surfaced with less then 1000 psi! Of course, it was still raining, and I was blue, but hey, I brought my rain coat, put it on and that helped. We were down for 70 minutes, either my longest dive or very close to it.
We got back about 1 pm, and decided to just stay on the beach and go for lunch. MY Pescado Loco group from Day Two convinced the others (who ate at the hotel restaurant) that it was a great place and we should go again. We took up three tables, and Warren got to sit with the girls because we didn't bring any cash. I again had casado con carne, because it was so good the first time, and a diet coke. Some of the group wanted to go on a night dive (Warren, Penne, James, Chris and Nancy), so James, Warren and Nancy went to the dive shop to check on possibilities, and the rest of us made our way back to the hotel with plans to meet back at the pool. I showered, and hung out in the room for a while just resting and reading and eventually made my way down. I was first, so I grabbed a chair that was facing west, dried it off from the rain and made myself at home. A short while later Lance made his way with his tax law reading (?!?!?!), and then Chris arrived. The dive shop group still wasn't back as the sun was setting, so Chris made a command decision that he would have a beer and the night dive was off. Penne and Keri came down to join us for the sunset, and we all kind of figured that if the dive group wasn't back yet, the night dive must not be happening, because it was pretty close to that time. But where were they?
The dive shop group finally made it back at sunset, and yes, the night dive was off. Lots of people were diving, and there weren't enough tanks, so they would have to give up day 3 of diving. So, instead, they went kayaking, James on a single and Warren and Nancy on a double. A couple of us were a little jealous, but hey, we still had another day.
To the beach for dinner, at the Aqua Sports restaurant that Nancy and Penne had enjoyed the night before. I had Polla A La Plancha (grilled chicken) with rice, even though I ordered a baked potato. And I gave myself another treat of sharing a chocolate sundae with James. Chris went all out with the banana split (okay, Lance ordered it by mistake thinking he was ordering a sundae, and Chris came "to his rescue" and shared with Penne).
Another hike up the hill to the hotel, and another successful day.
