The most easiest way to dual boot English + Japanese Windows is to use two keyboards ( English Key board + Japanese Keyboard). Connect these through Y-keykey dual keyboard adapter. (http://www.ymouse.com) This way keyboard problems are gone. And you don't have to fool English Windows98 to use the Japanese keyboard through registry.
If you cannot find a Japanese keyboard, but You want to enter Japanese characters, No problem - you don't need one. What you need is a Japanese IME(Input Method Editor). However, the obstacle is outside the Windows. When you boot to Japanese command.com and want to play with DOS, such characters as : \ ~ will become impossible to use if you do not use a japanese keyboard.
So I still recommend that you buy a Japanese keyboard and connect it to Y-keykey dual keyboard adapter. Y-keykey does not even require a driver....it means, everything works fine. |

Be careful when you run scandisk (either from DOS or Windows) in English Widnows, unless Japanese Windows is invisible. Otherwise, all Japanese characters will be read as illegal. Of course, you can minimize this problem by converting japanese katakana characters into English one by one through registry as well as from Explorer. Hardcoded items such as Tasks and its entries cannot be changed. (thus, these will become illegal to English DOS.) |
